Surrounded by police, treated like a criminal for driving 5 miles to a beauty spot for a walk.

It is not illegal to drive to exercise.

Or they are doing exactly as they have been told to do by their bosses. Take it up with the higher ups.

Police are just people same as everyone else, and don't deserve your abuse for doing their jobs.

Am I the only one wondering who took the photos? And had they gone home, dolled themselves up and then returned for press photos? Which surely isn’t allowed?!

nickymanchester · 09/01/2021 15:34

@chomalungma

If I was reading this properly,
I am allowed to take exercise alone, with one or more members of my household or in a public outdoor space, with one other member of a household who is not a member of my household.

Am I allowed to exercise alone? (If you read this paragragh and sub paragraphs properly)

A bit late in replying and apologies if somebody has already replied (haven't RTFT).

Yes, you are allowed to exercise alone.

You are allowed to exercise anywhere at all outside that you personally can lawfully gain access to.

The same applies when you are exercising with members of your household.

The difference comes with other households that aren't linked. You're only allowed to exercise together in a public place.

So, for example, if you have a garden or backyard then you can exercise there alone or with your family.

However, you are not allowed to exercise in your garden with anybody else - so you can't invite your neighbour over to jog around your back garden - as your garden isn't a public place

Hope this makes sense.

I'm not going to post on this again. It's simple: STAY AT HOME.

Nah, I'm OK, I'll keep exercising outdoors, thanks.

HelenaJustina · 09/01/2021 15:42

We are staying at home as much as possible. But all of the footpaths in/around our very small village are flooded at the moment, luckily properties aren’t affected (yet). So in order to exercise, we have to get in the car, and I won’t apologise for that.

ThatLibraryMiss · 09/01/2021 15:45

Hmm

It's simple: STAY AT HOME.

If that's what you choose, you do it. But it's certainly not what the law says or even what government and medical advice is.

PoppiesinOctober · 09/01/2021 15:46

I'm not going to post on this again.

Off you pop then.

wanderings · 09/01/2021 15:53

I'm proposing a new three-word slogan, aimed at the political elite:

TELL THE TRUTH.

One reason (of many, many, many) the government have lost the public's trust is because they lie frequently; we have had years and decades of being lied to. Also the media, which the government is using to spread their word, have form for constantly whipping up a storm about something or other. It's very hard to take either the government or the media seriously, when both of them cry wolf on a highly regular basis.

They weren’t “dolled up”. They were wearing coats and wellies, same as every dog walker I met today. Fuck me, some people have bloody low sartorial standards if they think that’s dressing up.
MrsMiaWallis · 09/01/2021 16:44

I thought about buying some Hunters after seeing their photo Grin misses point

Dugee · 09/01/2021 16:46

@MrsMiaWallis

I'd go for le Chameau. Last longer. Hunters are made in China now and aren't as well made.

(Said by someone who spends a lot of time in mud).

MrsMiaWallis · 09/01/2021 16:47

I spend all day in mud Grin

Dhs le chameaus split after 6 months and so did my aigles. God knows what we are doing but I'll try anything.

countrygirl99 · 09/01/2021 16:51

@MrsMiaWallis do you drive in your wellies? It's really bad for them apparently and causes splits. But hunters are rubbish these days.

Very rarely, no

MrsMiaWallis · 09/01/2021 16:57

I've had two pairs of Aigles in the last 2 years, both split after 6/7 months.

Dugee · 09/01/2021 17:00

@MrsMiaWallis

My ale Chameau have lasted 6 years. Never tried Aigle but DP went off Hunters as they kept splitting (sole coming away from boot) and now swears by Dunlops (although not the most stylish).

I would buy le chameaus if I beleived they'd not split. Maybe I'll try. Are they comfy?

I’ve got a pair of Muck Boots which have lasted a few years and I love. Dead comfy too

DH bought me a pair of gloss red Hunters for my birthday which are fab so far and I find more comfy than Muck Boots. I hose the mud off every day

It's just ridiculous. Seriously - even if you're a lockdown fanatic you must surely see that trying to punish someone for going 7 miles from their house is just barbaric.

noidea02 · 09/01/2021 17:36

@VinylDetective dog walkers round you clearly make more effort with their makeup and style than they do round me then. Still doesn’t answer the question of why there was a third person taking photos.

You'd honestly think so but it's clear from some who have posted that this is not the case. Some people wont be happy until we are all locked inside!

Maybe they asked someone to take a picture of them?

Quite simply the 'exercise' they were doing was walking which can be done out their front doors with a less attractive backdrop.

What they did was go out for the afternoon. Not exercise..

And don't get me started on all the people who suddenly see exercise as their daily right when they didn't give a monkeys about it before.

Honestly, we should have the power to demand sight of people's Strava history!

I haven't abused them, I've described them. Those girls didn't break the law, so the officers were NOT doing their jobs. Police officers are trusted to act with integrity and good judgement. This situation was pathetic. They are either too thick/ignorant to apply the law appropriately, or they were throwing their weight around simply because they could.
