A teacher at my DD’s school came up as a suggested friend on FB. I looked at her profile. These are public posts. I’ll only upload the ones I could edit to hide identifying details but there are some that are MUCH worse. Her current profile picture is the #LEAVEHOME one. She has multiple posts about how this is all a ‘plandemic’ and Covid doesn’t exist. Makes me feel very uncomfortable that she has access to young impressionable minds. I saw her once at the shops and she wasn’t wearing a mask, I just assumed she was exempt. She is also VERY anti-vax and has posted about how dangerous the Covid vaccine is. Again, all public posts that anyone can see.

YANBU- this is dangerous and I would either talk to her or bring it to the school’s attention. Or at least tell her to change her privacy settings.

YABU- mind your own business.

I don’t often comment of threads like this but please do report this teacher

I like many other ECV people have a school age child, he’s in sixth form and obviously much more aware than younger children but he has autism and anxiety

Since September he’s worn a mask at school every day for every lesson to try and protect me, I probably wouldn’t survive Covid and he knows this

Imagine if he brought covid home to me because he trusted the teachers around him like this one and later found out how little regard she had for his family safety

It’s awful putting my child in this position and I for one want to protect him from the stupidity of people like this, by all means play Russian roulette with her own life but don’t make my child do so with mine

KiKiKiKi123 · 08/01/2021 13:40

@SunsetOverEasterIsland you are right and no, of course I wouldn’t be dithering over terrorist propaganda. It’s just hard when you actually know the person. The thing is this is probably going to come out soon anyway, all the posts are public, if I don’t report it someone else will. I will report it in the most sensitive way possible and will not rant and rave. Hopefully if I do it kindly they will be fair with her.

@Fangdrew I agree with you 100%! I will definitely keep you updated

She's entitled to hold whatever personal views she likes (although yes, airing them so publically as a teacher is misguided and prob against guidelines) so long as she remains professional with the kids. It's a bit of a leap to just assume she must be spouting this stuff off in the classroom. Freedom of thought and belief is a human right for pity's sake.

OhCaptain · 08/01/2021 14:25

@Firefretted

And if she’s insisting that it’s fake and that she’s be touching people, hugging people, not keeping her distance from people?
FutureDuchessofHastings · 08/01/2021 14:25

Is it possible that she has a genuine, private Facebook account for general stuff (using a fake name) and has set up this other account, under her easy-to-find real name just to share this nonsense? I'm just trying to work out why she would change her name specifically to share this covid terrorism. She could, of course, then deny all knowledge of it to her headteacher if questioned, and show her genuine, hard-to-find profile.
I think it does need reporting because this nonsense should not be shared by teachers. Regardless of what their personal beliefs are, this needs to be kept well away from children. I'm assuming it's not improbable that children from her school will look her on up Facebook so will most likely find this profile and see the dangerous nonsense she's sharing. You need to be confident that your children can be kept safe at school and it doesn't sound like she can promise this if she really believes she needs to wake people up to the truth and doesn't believe in masks, distancing or vaccinations.

FutureDuchessofHastings · 08/01/2021 14:27

@Firefretted - It's not about freedom of thought or whether she's spouting this stuff in the classroom though, is it? It's about her not believing in the dangers of Covid, or even in the virus itself, and therefore not following guidelines to keep herself and, by extension, the children safe.

Firefretted · 08/01/2021 15:46

@futureduchessofhastings I don't disagree with yo but several people on this thread seem to think she shouldn't be teaching simply because she holds a belief they find abhorrent rather than any of your other points. Think that's a pretty slippery slope to go down - who else's beliefs should get them disqualified from teaching? Devout religious believers? Tories? Who decides what's an 'acceptable' belief?

Petitmum · 08/01/2021 16:09

I would bring this to the attention of the school. I would be very concerned about this........................does she / has she followed the rules in school ...........is she / did she put pupils and staff at risk?

KiKiKiKi123 · 08/01/2021 16:15

@Firefretted I hear what you’re saying and to an extent I sort of agree (if we’re talking about religion or ‘normal’ political views) but then where do you draw the line? For example, I might not be happy about a trump supporter teaching my kid but I certainly would have to accept it. I mean, in general any sort of extremist point of view is normally frowned upon and mostly unacceptable. Would you not say this teacher’s views are bordering on extremist? I would. Only because her views could cause harm. Encouraging others not to vaccinate is harmful, not wearing a mask is harmful, spreading false information about the NHS and creating distrust is harmful, is it not?

MaelyssQ · 08/01/2021 17:35

She sounds a bit thick. You sure she's a teacher?

HelebethH · 08/01/2021 17:50

Just ask yourself two things.

 1. How confident are you she is following safe Covid proceedures with the children in her care given her facebook posts?
 2. Do you want someone endangering your child or your family?
Liftmusic · 08/01/2021 19:31

One of my dc teacher’s profile is public, I don’t think it’s that unusual. She is lovely and only posts about horses but it’s all open.

KiKiKiKi123 · 11/01/2021 08:26

Just a quick update. I have reported her to the school and sent screenshots. I was still hesitant about it, even after all of your great advice but then made my mind up after her latest rant. Apparently we are all abusing our children by keeping them at home and not fighting the government for closing schools. According to her it is also child abuse if we vaccinate our kids or make them wear masks. She once again said it is her duty to educate everyone about the ‘plandemic’. I will update once I’ve heard back from the school.

@contrmary

YANBU.

You must take screenshots and report it to the school ASAP, she is a major risk to the safety of the children.

This here. She is a potential biohazard
BrumBoo · 11/01/2021 08:48

Teachers are allowed their own opinions. If those opinions are deemed to bring the school into disrepute when made public, there can be consequences. Suggesting a serious pandemic is not real, and is openly pushing these views where her students can find them falls under this category, especially with education under such scrutiny already. It's dangerous misinformation, and teachers of all people should know better.

There's a reason why teachers are strongly advised to lock down their SM accounts as much as possible, one whiff of 'inappropriate' behaviour can land you in hot water.

MaMaD1990 · 11/01/2021 13:48

You definitely did the right thing OP. I'm interested to see how the school responds to this.

Inpersuitofhappiness · 11/01/2021 13:52

Please report this to the headteacher and the local educational authority.
Those views wouldn't make me confident she would be taking the covid measures seriously at all, and she's really quite a risk to the children she teaches in person.

SophieB100 · 11/01/2021 14:25

You did the right thing OP.
Irrespective of her own views, she shouldn't in her position as a teacher be posting her views openly on social media.
It sounds like she's becoming more and more extreme too.

bobbojobbo · 11/01/2021 14:28

If she's not discussing these ideas with your kids, which surely you'd know about. Then what's her personal life, opinions and beliefs should be irrelevant

Its not irrelevant at all. Its all indicative of her being far too stupid unsuitable to be a teacher. Report, and follow up.
Daft cow.

HollowTalk · 11/01/2021 14:35

She sounds unhinged and reminiscent of those protesting on Capitol Hill.

Winterpaw · 11/01/2021 14:45
@LindaEllen Thanks for explaining. I had no idea
Sure you didn't Hmm

BendyLikeBeckham · 11/01/2021 14:58

I hope she does lose her job over this. She is fucking dangerous.

KiKiKiKi123 · 11/01/2021 15:25

@Winterpaw why the snarky comment? So unnecessary. Does being unkind to strangers online make you feel better about yourself? I really don’t get it.
