NC as outing details

I’m beyond fed up. In lockdown with a baby, a medic DH and am pregnant with number 2 so tired and struggling with back/hip pain. Writing this locked in downstairs loo having a cry whilst DC screams at DH who keeps knocking on the door asking if I’m almost done!

Everything is going wrong. We moved into this house in feb. It needed lots of work doing but very little got done as just couldn’t get workmen in post covid. No availability.

Since Christmas we’ve got 2 shower rooms both broken/unusable and 2 fridge freezers broken losing all our food. (Second was a temporary measure until first could get sorted as integrated and non available online).

Neither is a easy fix. Getting workmen out is like pulling teeth. 15 phone calls to be told everyone is booked up for months. Tried listing on my builder/check a trade, NOTHING!
Finally get someone out, they make it worse, then say we need a much bigger job doing to rectify it as it’s a ‘bigger problem’ all of which is crazy expensive and they don’t have any availability to do for months!

I cry most days. I’m sick of project managing and getting nowhere! I’m sick of having to wash using a cup in a bath tub I can’t even fill the bath tub as the bath taps don’t work. Have to use the sink taps to fill the cup FFS!

We’re staring down the barrel of about £5k of expenses which would have been half that had we been able to get the work done over summer like we planned! Instead stuff has broken/flooded and caused damage because it was left.

I’m just sick of it. Feel like we are swimming through treacle!

Well this thread has escalated.

Not a fan of having my pregnancy questioned. Given I’m in a stable marriage, financially comfortable (on the whole), employed and not complaining about being pregnant I don’t really think it’s relevant.

I’m 5 months in so no I’ve not conceived in the last few weeks since the house decided to fall down around us! Surprisingly I didn’t think to delay TTC on the basis several household things might go wrong in 3/4 months time! Not sure anyone would ever have a baby if we operated like that. For many reasons non was the best/right time for us. If I wasn’t pregnant I would be in exactly the same situation and just as fed up/miserable. It makes very little difference.

The cosmetic work/jobs we needed doing since moving in were not a reason to delay TTC

Everything worked (until recently) just maybe wasn’t as we wanted it. We had a working shower room and fridge freezer.

Feeling brighter this morning. My new shower attachment just arrived and will hopefully work!
Managed to find an integrated freezer to fit one of our cabinets (just come back into stock) so have ordered that. We can manage for a while like that. I can batch cook and freeze meals. Garage is so cold atm can probably keep daily milk and basics in it chilled!

Wow, I'm actually in disbelief at Brinkmanship's posts.

Glad you've got somewhat sorted OP. It's a pain in the arse to get appliances recently, we're having to make do without a dryer in winter 🤦‍♀️ an integrated odd space job.
It's a pain but more frequent shops might help for the fridge bits but the garage should be cold enough! The house will come back together, it's hard to find the right tradesmen a lot of the time.

I also know of many actively trying during the pandemic. The shock, the horror, the audacity that just maybe life still continues despite everything around us.

My garage is serving as a useful larder st the minute too ! Hope your shower attachment works

Not surprised you were Hmm at some of the here it that went down on here last night at one point I thought some folk had posted on the wrong thread

@Gingerinthegarden if you have a socket in your garage, we have our chest freezer in there- exactly for batch cooking purposes - but we don't need the garage for a car. It's a small one (about 50 cm by 50 Cm but a metre and a bit tall).

And apologies for my part in the derail - I should have just ignored the comments questioning your wisdom and pregnancy.

@NoraK For your dryer issue you may like to take a look at the Lakeland heated drying rack, much cheaper to run (electricity wise) and does the job too. I am assuming Lakeland are still open here.
