To think the police should have done more?

Just wanted some opinions on an incident that took place last night please

At the back of my house there is a fairly large square green area (has a couple of tree clusters, mainly used by the kids on the street to play out on. It's a wet area at the best of times but at this time of year it turns into a swamp in parts.
3 sides of this space are surrounded by houses (everyone's garden backs onto it) and at the furthest point away from my house is the main road. It's generally a quiet area.
Our bedroom is at the back of the house and last night as we got into bed we heard shouting and voices coming from the green. We looked out and there was a car in the middle of the grass with its headlights on and what sounded like someone rustling about in the neighbours bushes.
Could also hear some voices but apart from the odd expletive, couldn't really work out what was being said. They gradually got louder and began playing music in their car.
Anyway, I called the non emergency police and they sent a car about an hour later.
It unfolded that it was a group of teenagers (2 girls 2 boys) who had driven on to the green, I assume for a laugh, but got stuck.
By this point it was about 1am
The police quizzed them about why they'd ended up where they had and I could hear one of the girls claiming that she was trying to turn around (no chance that is true there's plenty of wide surrounding roads she could have done this in) but obviously the police couldn't prove anything else.
After about 45 mins (and a breathalyser) the police told them that as long as they had a recovery truck arranged, which they'd claimed to have on the way, they'd leave them to it.
Once the police left they began screaming, shouting, singing, music blaring and beeping their horn in some kind of celebration which went on until about 2.30am when a 4x4 turned up.
A guy attempted to pull them out but due to swamp like conditions he too got stuck and couldn't pull them out. He went off to get his actual recovery truck with a winch. Cue another 45 mins of music, horn blaring, shouting etc until he finally came back and managed to winch them out.

We finally got to sleep about 3.45am Confused

We could hear the whole thing as it was just outside my back garden and while I know the police were probably trying to keep everything peaceful, I just feel like these people played them and essentially found it a reason to party.

I don't even know what I'd have expected the police to do and I know I'm probably BU but I'm tired and grumpy now Xmas Angry

Did you call the police back when the disturbance restarted?

docklown · 07/01/2021 09:11

@Petitmum no, I know I probably should have done shouldn't I?

Ohhhh I would be fuming. This is when I dream about owning a nerf gun to shoot at them (don’t want to actually cause harm) 🤣😂

Might invest in a water gun with a long range 🙈

My OH did suggest getting our little boys nerf gun 🤣
I was torn between not wanting to waste police time (I get it, I was a stupid teenager once and they weren't actually causing any harm apart from keeping me awake) and being annoyed that the were a) most likely breaking lockdown rules b) just generally taking the piss

Tbh if the police didn’t do much the first time I can see why you didn’t bother calling back!
