I expect they will arrest the ones inside the Capitol, fairly away from cameras, and disperse the ones outside. The cold won't help them stay for long, I don't think.
But under the cover of dark, it will be easier to deal with them, I suspect, without attracting too much attention.

In general chat here, as we looked in disbelief at it happening, DH mentioned he half expected some to specifically target a few Democrats - forcing them to lose their majorities in the Houses.

I wonder does he realise even if it's not resolved before 20th Jan, he has to leave then and Nancy Pelosi, as Speaker and 3rd in line of succession, takes over.

They've been holding the strings on this. It's their last show of strength. Unfortunately I doubt this will be the last of it. Trump is deranged and he won't give up.

I think it's going to cost him dear, though. Democrats and Republicans have been united in condemning the actions of the protesters. He's fast losing the support of the Republican Party, let's hope that continues to be the case.

Definitely an inside job

Some protesters will leave, but that leaves you with a more consolidated group of hard core, heavily armed, well equipped and committed people to find and neutralise. In many ways, big crowds are easier to manage from a domestic CT perspective.

Yes, I understand but this is what you would expect from countries with a history of instability. Not such a huge democracy with supposed checks and balances. It's really important that he is not allowed to get away with all this

I thought exactly this when the president of NATO and Justin Trudeau released statements... they're the kind of things said about 'other' nations, never a country we have such close ties to and is supposedly some sort of beacon of democracy!

We were in the Capitol Building pre Covid and were amused to see how Americans treated the place with reverence - like a staunch catholic visiting the Vatican. These people are bonkers (especially buffalo man).

They would all be dead if they were waving BLM banners.
