Hello Fresh

Anyone else have issues with Hello Fresh?? We've had 3 boxes and absolutely love the recipes but have had issues with each box. One week the veg was way past best, another the recipe cards were missing and this week the meat is missing. I appreciate that they credit your account but that doesn't help when you have to go out and by ingredients, defeating the object. Have we just been unlucky or should we just cancel??

in one of ours, the spice (turmeric based) had exploded and field the box and covered all ingredients. It went everywhere - we DH washed all vegs and packets and got yellow juice all around the kitchen.

TBF - they compensated us for that week, when it was probably the delivery comlany s fault for bashing the box.

Not major other problem otherwise - fingers crossed!

I think you’ve been particularly unlucky, but yes, one missing ingredient pretty much defeats the objective of the whole exercise and was one of the reasons we stopped.

YANBU - Cancel ( I assume)

I had a few boxes similar to what you describe. I wont be continuing with them. There are some amazing recipes online, I just need to be bothered to find them :D

I know its not the same, but I have a "bakedin" box delivered monthly which satisfies the baking itch somewhat

I cancelled for the same reason. Once got parsley instead of coriander and other times ingredients were left out completely. Also recipe cards were often missing. You can look them up but, given that the whole point of the box is the convenience, it defeats the object

We've been using gousto for 4 months and no issues at all.

Several years ago we tried hello fresh and had a problem with at least 1 or 2 ingredients in every box. After a few boxes we switched to gousto, have had the occasional hiccup but only once or twice rather than every box!

Which day is your delivery on?
We get ours on a Sunday (which I think is the first delivery day for each week) and have only had one missing item since May but a friend of ours had Thursday deliveries and ended up with lots of missing items and short dates.

I wasn’t impressed. Most of the ingredients were basic stock items I already had but in fiddly tiny packets. Some of the veg looked extremely tired and the meat was very mass farmed looking.

I was at fault in not checking properly but one recipe I was sent contained over 1000 calories per portion. You also had to decide a long way ahead what you wanted.

So it was a no from us but did give me some ideas to vary our meals a bit.

I think they are best aimed at people who have very limited cooking experience and very few stock items.

It's a couple of years since we had HF. When it was good it was excellent, but we did have a period of missing items. They always refunded more than the item cost, but it was a bit of a pain. I imagine cv has made it more tricky for them.

We cancelled our subscription after the chicken in our last box was off.
According the packaging it was still in date, the smell said otherwise Envy

We've been getting them a while but they've gone downhill the past few months. Wrong stuff turning up, badly gone off veg. Giving them one more try then cancelling. You need to complain though as they give you money back.

We have only ever had 1 missing item over maybe 18 months of boxes? I absolutely love them, the veg is so fresh and the meat is always lovely. Big fan.

I get boxes occasionally (am having them again for the next couple of weeks) never had any issues really. I do get mine delivered on a Monday so maybe it does make a difference which day your delivery is. I find Gousto is good as well

We get one occasionally and initially they were great, more recently we have had some issues with some badly gone off veg, some missing items and, randomly, a whole extra full-sized block of butter included in the box for no reason.
They refund you as credit on your account which isn't ideal as it assumes you want another box. We are getting another one this week which was a lot cheaper than usual due to the credits we had accumulated. This will be the last one we get for a while, and maybe the last ever if there are any more issues.

I've recently cancelled mine for the same reason. I only had a box occassionally (probably 5 or 6 in total) and I had 3 in a row all with things missing. Odd bits of herbs & spices was one thing but no chicken kind of ruined the whole point of the scheme! I'd say the quality of the veg varied although I never had anything that was inedible or out of date. I've had a couple of gusto boxes and so far they've been ok.

I had several issues with HF during lockdown but none with Gousto

They doorstepped me (twice!) as evening cold callers ignoring my "no cold callers" notice completely as apparently it didn't apply to them....

I won't ever support a company that markets themselves like that.

I’ve used them in the past with no issue and they offered me a special deal last autumn so I thought I’d start them up again. First two boxes had a missing item then something their end went wrong but hadn’t actually affected me so I got three more reduced orders all of which have been fine since.

I was extremely grateful for Hello Fresh, initially, especially at the beginning of lockdown, as it meant that there was some fresh ingredients being delivered, but I got so tired of seeming like a whiny, complaining person, when there was so much missing or wrong with every order.

I've found (and ordered) a Hello Fresh recipe book! Feeling hopeful as we have lots of store cupboard ingredients and I love the Hello Fresh recipes. Interesting to know others have had issues.
