Because I can't cope with all the 'this will never end, this will be life forever now, it's going to last until 2023/24'.

I've honestly realised that no where else social media wise is so doom and gloom. There really doesn't seem to be this complete end of the world sentiment anywhere else other than on here.

I have always loved coming on here and reading and contributing to threads but I honestly don't think I can anymore. My mental health and anxiety is becoming considerably worse from being here.

Is anyone else feeling this way?

I left during the first lockdown. It was all getting a bit much with the craziness. Had a few months off and came back but it’s still crazy.

Melange99 · 05/01/2021 05:47

I left MN in the first lockdown but came back a month or so, it was doing me in. Ditto Twitter and some mainstream media. I have hidden the covid board but the subject matter permeates the other boards even though the title does not give that impression. For instance some bland title in AIBU is actually about covid. I would like the mods to shift everything related to Covid info one board. I know it is in health, but it could have it own section at the moment with sub sections for health, general covid chat (masks), education etc.

I don't know people in RL who carry on like some people do on MN.

Stick to The Litter Tray: we have a nice time there sharing cat pictures.

Subordinateclause · 05/01/2021 06:19

I just think it's got a bit boring. No one can do much anymore so there's little variety in what people post about. I missed all the usual 'at the in laws for Christmas and it's 8pm and all I've been offered to eat is a single mince pie' threads.

Figgyboa · 05/01/2021 06:20

I'm with you OP. Where i live we have been in lockdown for months. everything, including schools closed. Yes it sucks and its hard and lonely but everyone is getting on with it so we can get over it. Its not going to be forever, we just got to grin and bare it!

CousinLucy · 05/01/2021 06:24

I left in June 2020. Came back recently. The vitriol about online learning, homeschooling and hatred of teachers made me leave. Considering turning off, not leaving, after today.

KatherineJaneway · 05/01/2021 06:28

@DeeCeeCherry

The problem is also that Covid discussions and commentary are shoehorned into everything. Some are singularly determined for Covid discussions not to be solely on Covid board, they crave to be heard elsewhere. Covid vigilantes.
I agree with this. You can be reading a thread about a relationship issue, when someone pops up and questions what tier the OP is in to then admonish them if they feel like OP has broken the rules.

Some corners of mumsnet radiate support and positive energy.
I have found an amazing group of women here- and we lift each other on a daily basis.
I avoid all the negative areas though.

TammyTwoSwanson · 05/01/2021 06:44

I've met some amazing women from MN and there's a lot of positivity, help and brilliance on this site, but YANBU OP. All the other negativity is draining as fuck.

GonnaBeYoniThisChristmas · 05/01/2021 06:45

I set a 30 min screen limit for mumsnet daily in the iPhone settings. Easy to check in and have your doom-fest then move off. Smile

Remmy123 · 05/01/2021 06:47

It is depressing - the millions of the school threads and how home learning isn't bad for kids when it bloody well is rubbish!!!!!

Aixenprovence · 05/01/2021 06:52

I wonder if anyone has ever changed their mind as a result of any of the coronavirus threads.

I've been thinking about this recently - what is the real point of the threads discussing the options, what will happen etc? Are pp attempting to persuade - seems unlikely to work because in general people don't change their minds if someone calls you stupid (or far worse) as tends to happen quite quickly? Or are pp mainly aiming just to express their view rather than persuade anyone? (Also of value, but probably not conducive to extended reasoned discussion of the options!)

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 05/01/2021 06:53

Just don’t read the threads! 🤷‍♀️

blueangel19 · 05/01/2021 06:55

I do not take MN as serious as some people do. When I read what people moan about and how they only see the negative about what this government do. It is like most people think the UK is the only country going through the pandemic. I rather be here than in many other places in the world. The US is a nightmare at the moment. I am grateful for all that it has been achieved. People should have more perspective. But yes if you find it detrimental to your mental health quit MN. It is not worth it.

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2021 06:55

The 'what's Boris going to say?' threads yesterday were ridiculous. Why not stop speculating and wait and see?
Plus all the 'can I do this?' threads-you just have to say 'randoms on MN said | could' if challenged? Confused

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2021 06:57

It would be good if they stayed in the Coronavirus topic then the whole lot could be hidden, but they are all over AIBU. I think we could do with 'Coronavirus AIBU' the answer is generally yes.
Hobnobswantshernameback · 05/01/2021 06:57

It's a bit bloody tricky when they are everywhere and you have to open each misery fest to hide it
Also as a PP said you can be chatting about something innocuous and someone twat will come along and misery plop some shit about covid
I've asked HQ repeatedly to move threads and on the whole they wont
It's all about the clicks innit

DoormatBob · 05/01/2021 07:02

It was getting a bit much last night with seemingly most of MN crying into wine glasses. I'm not aware of anyone outside of MN who cried after a predicted news announcement Hmm

The doom and gloom everywhere is tiresome. It took me a couple of months to adapt last March but the 2nd half of 2020 was brilliant for me. I am more highly motivated than ever, I used the time I had more effectively and researched/learnt new skills when I usually would've wasted it on TV/Phone. I am now setup with an aim to increase our household income by 50% by the end of 2021.

Adults being hysterical in these circumstances is quite frankly ridiculous.

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2021 07:02

Sometimes it's good to read then hide them to see the madness that exists TBF.

Anyone 'crying and shaking'? That seems to be popular at the moment.
WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 05/01/2021 07:04

It needs more moderation and probably get rid of AIBU, it's not just Covid, it was exactly the same with Brexit.

IamTomHanks · 05/01/2021 07:05

Been thinking about it for a while, but mostly because it's become a right-wing echo chamber.

Aixenprovence · 05/01/2021 07:06

If you hide the coronavirus topic the thread titles still appear in trending now, don't they? I think I asked mn if that could be changed last march but it wasn't technically possible (airi). It is quite difficult to stay on mn and ignore them, and even the thread titles can be quite a downer!

Though I have been interested in discussing it recently as we are at an interesting point - vaccinations becoming available, etc. - and there are always some interesting and informative posts. But you have to recognise when it is starting to bring you down and switch off then.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 05/01/2021 07:06

@CrotchBurn I wasn't being sarcastic, I loved that thread!

MrsExpo · 05/01/2021 07:15

I agree with you OP .... think I need to do the same and take a break for a bit. Maybe see you all in the summer ..... TTFN.
