Anyone else considering coming off Mumsnet for the foreseeable?

Because I can't cope with all the 'this will never end, this will be life forever now, it's going to last until 2023/24'.

I've honestly realised that no where else social media wise is so doom and gloom. There really doesn't seem to be this complete end of the world sentiment anywhere else other than on here.

I have always loved coming on here and reading and contributing to threads but I honestly don't think I can anymore. My mental health and anxiety is becoming considerably worse from being here.

Is anyone else feeling this way?

I agree - feeling a bit like that after reading the “since the announcement at 8pm” thread. Everyone basically crying, wailing, binging on gin and saying “what’s the point of anything anymore?”
I’m often quite a grumpy, negative person but even I find it a bit much. I don’t know anyone in RL who would act like that either, and many of my friends and relatives and nhs workers. Maybe I move in more pragmatic circles?

cyclingmad · 05/01/2021 01:24

@totallydefeated Grin exactly 💯

grassisjeweled · 05/01/2021 01:26

Thnask, tobee

NowellSingWe · 05/01/2021 01:27

MN is my bubble tbh.

Sobeyondthehills · 05/01/2021 01:29

For myself, I join on on a few of the covid threads, because I do learn something, I am on one at the moment, because I am angry, but I am going to be angry this evening, I was always going to be angry at whatever decision they made. Then tomorrow I will start figuring out what we can do.

If it gets too much, I either come off MNs or block threads, I think what we all need is a good ol' parking thread

Quaagars · 05/01/2021 02:05

YANBU.
It's not just COVID, I think this site is detrimental to many people's mental health,
I say this as an active member for absolute years!!
It's all anonymous.
Which usually means everybody spouting vile, bigoted, tin foil hat conspiracy theories or whatever and being backed up because misery loves company.
If you want to preserve your mental health I find coming off here for a while does the world of good.

Myshinynewname2021 · 05/01/2021 02:26

I'm sick of the batshitness tbh. It's a conspiracy, masks don't work, getting covid is fine, Boris should do x or y (both groups arguing both sides on here). It's all just about what people find convenient for them but what I struggle with is how they then argue vehemently that theirs is the right way. It's not it's just what they want. No one will ever say 'well maybe they have a point even though I don't agree with all of it'

And also I'm starting to think all men are a bit rubbish and all relationships for women involve putting up with large amounts of shit. So many women seem completely unable to just tell
Their other half to stop fucking doing whatever it is that they are doing and to take any form of action eg going on strike. I understand why but it's hard to watch.

SlothWithACloth · 05/01/2021 02:34

Just ignore those threads.
I’ve enjoyed reading loads of positive things like books to read, things to do with kids, things that we can do to make things better, tv to watch (I binged watched the fab Bridgerton thanks to mumsnet)
I’ve even discovered some tasty things to put on toast today.
It’s all good Smile

happystone · 05/01/2021 02:44

Yes I can angry about the self-centred me me me lot.

Valkadin · 05/01/2021 03:05

I just click on a thread and if it’s not for me I just click off it straight away.

Mum2threejs · 05/01/2021 03:09

Just returned after several months away due to the doom and gloom. I also recommend turning off the news channels n apps as it worked really well in the first lockdown. Just get on with your world under restrictions , doing what ever keeps you happy day to day. Ignorance of the daily numbers etc everyday doesn’t affect your life.it makes it less stressful :)

JingsMahBucket · 05/01/2021 03:12

Oooh, where’s that thread @SlothWithACloth?

Sinful8 · 05/01/2021 03:26

@OhCaptain

You can just go. It’s not an airport, you don’t have to announce your departure.
Not quite how airports work
AlternativePerspective · 05/01/2021 03:36

COVID related threads should be moved to the COVID topic without exception and no, “it might be about education/employment/something we need to see on the main boards,” isn’t a reason to leave them there. There is a board for them. If you want to read about online learning/vaccinations/whether you can visit auntie mable’s dog’s cousin this week go and look on the COVID board to see if there’s a topic there.

I hid the COVID topic way back in March, but there’s still no avoiding the COVID threads.

I started a thread in site stuff a few months ago asking for COVID threads to be moved as a matter of course and many posters agreed with me, but nothing ever happened.

Maybe I’ll start another one.

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/01/2021 03:42

The people complaining about it never ending I find irritating. It doesn’t affect my MH. I eye rolling actually. I’ve had 10 years of what the average person is getting a little taster of due to chronic illness and being often largely bedridden. My mental health is far better than the majority because I’ve had to learn proper, steely resilience. Capitulation would have meant carers, perhaps even admission to a care home. I’d possibly be dead now, poisoned by my own body. As if, I’ve had 3 surgeries instead. I have fought. For me, it is genuinely never ending. They don’t have the first clue about never ending.

So my advice op is to stop listening to them. They’re irritating. Nothing more.

Mumsnet is my actual world. I don’t have much of a life outside of it. So to consider coming off it for this reason would be absurd for me.

Groovinpeanut · 05/01/2021 03:52

Hell no... I log on here and read some of the batshit crazy, weirdest things... I then log out safe in the knowledge that I'm sane and normal. 🤣

Yes, a parking thread - but MUST have diagrams, for some weird reason I love all the different ways that the diagrams are produced.

I think I might try to avoid a couple of sections for a few days (famous last words) and, instead, have a trawl back through Classics - just for some light relief and to have a chuckle at some of the ones that have had me properly laughing in the past. If I rediscover any that get proper belly laughs from me, than I’ll maybe link them in here.

cbt944 · 05/01/2021 04:18

I've hidden the Coronavirus board as I find all the denial, minimising, ignorance of world events, parochialism, lack of empathy and basic humanity, false percentages, and silly statements presented as fact, the sudden attacks, and weird projecting, really really upsetting.

But the threads come up, sometimes with titles that don't lead one to expect it to be covid-related, in the trending now thingo. Then I find myself posting, and it really is a pointless exercise. I feel like I need to offer a glossary sometimes for the simplest sentence; people will just grab onto a word or a phrase out of context, and slam the poster with it. Very unpleasant.

iVampire · 05/01/2021 04:44

I’ve noticed a few posters seem to have already voted with their feet and left

They are ones I always thought were quite sensible, good tempered and patient

HeadIsFucked · 05/01/2021 04:52

The doom and gloom doesn't really bother me. Whats getting under my skin is how some appear to be almost relishing the lockdown thing, actively suggesting (seriously, not in a jokey way) army patrolling the streets to make sure people stay in, 'covid marshals' all over, and so on. Such people would have felt right at home initially in Wuhan, when people were being boarded into houses so they couldn;t get out at all Hmm

Have 3 of thse so far on my facebook and they really are bizarre to watch. I might have removed them by now because of the sheer aggresiveness of many of their posts if someone dares reply and give a different view. Its also hard to work out if they really think this would be a great idea ad we should seriously do it, or are just trolling. They do not seem the kind of people who you would expect to troll, but..stranger things have happened I guess.

HeadIsFucked · 05/01/2021 04:53

*I might have removed them by now because of the sheer aggresiveness of many of their posts if someone dares reply and give a different view. - if not for how entertaining I find their arguments, kind of like a car crash you fele the need to look at when you really don't want to.

Missed off half a sentence somehow, god knows how

CrotchBurn · 05/01/2021 05:00

What I cant handle is the endless countless fucking schools + Covid threads. Then if you bitch about it you get told "well dont read the thread then".

Just have one big schools + Covid thread, it's so fucking boring to see AIBU rammed full of "DD8 in tier 4 blah blah blah school blah blah covid blah outrage"

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 05/01/2021 05:04

What I'd give for a good parking and Olaf thread these days....

CrotchBurn · 05/01/2021 05:12

@KarlKennedysDurianFruit
I actually find talented troll threads are much better value for money than these boring as fuck workaday covid threads 🤷‍♀️

UniversalFlangeAdaptor · 05/01/2021 05:15

Yes, I often consider leaving. But MN is a good example of the Pareto principle: it's about finding that 20 percent of input that's the most productive and helpful, and reducing exposure to the 80 percent that brings you little or no benefit.
