Schools should shut for 2 weeks ONLY !

HeyBaby2020 · 03/01/2021 20:04

I work in a school so this is not a teacher / school staff bashing thread at all

Some staff have been calling out for schools to shut just for 2 weeks so people can isolate etc

Now London where I am have that chance, personally think everywhere else should close just for 2 weeks but for people to say they should be closed until February or further are mad! That is simply not an option and unfair on the kids

If you use the 2 weeks you are getting properly you could really make a difference!

They should stay closed for as long as is required to bring covid under control again and allow for millions to be vaccinated.

There is a thread on here tonight, a man is due a vaccine soon I don't want to say more.

Let's roll this vaccine out and concentrate on that!!

Littleposh · 03/01/2021 22:42

@Thewiseoneincognito particularly children

HeyBaby2020 · 03/01/2021 23:06

I could scream!!! They need to vaccinate the teachers / school staff

Why can’t the thick cunts in government understand this

You voted for them.

Livelovebehappy · 03/01/2021 23:14

Can’t say two weeks only. Unless you have a crystal ball. It could be 2 weeks, 5 weeks, 10 weeks... who knows? Would be stupid for the government to put an exact time on it, to then have to do yet another U turn. It will need to be for as long as it takes to get the virus under control.

But this wouldn’t fix the problem. Only that teachers wouldn’t get so ill. Why should a healthy 25yo teachers that most likely be asymptotic have the vaccine before my 96 yo neighbour who if she caught it would most likely end up in icu and die after a month. Rhe idea of the vaccines is that people don’t get that ill hence they’d no need a hospital bed it’s not to stop transmission. I do support the idea of a 25yo cev teacher or 60yo one who would get quite ill tho
Littleposh · 03/01/2021 23:19

@HeyBaby2020 same reason the thick cunts not in government, who do not have full possession of the facts nor the same pressure on them eyt think they can do a better job, I expect

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 03/01/2021 23:19

@Littleposh

Children have a right to be educated, to be safe, to be happy, to be safeguarded.

Something teachers agree to when they go into the vocation

What now? I signed a contract for a job, no one told me I was signing my life away.
150camelot · 03/01/2021 23:20

Because the vaccine hasn't been approved for children?

Because there are lots more people likely to become seriously ill nad need NHS resources if they get Covid and it makes more sense to protect the NHS (for your children and yourself) by removing them from the equation by vaccinating them?

Because there isn't yet enough vaccine or simply the time to vaccinate every teacher/TA/pupil/janitor/canteen staff in two weeks?

Please, I know you're panicking but...engage your brain.

HeyBaby2020 · 03/01/2021 23:21

@EasterIssland because it’s bound to be on the bloody unions next tick list as they seem to want the schools shut until there is 0 cases and are making life difficult

If that’s rhe case ... then schools will be closed til 2022 meanwhile people will continue dying of COVID

ilovesooty · 03/01/2021 23:27

@Brogues

The people who have ignored/bent the rules in their favour so far will not isolate for two weeks.
Exactly. And I think teachers are justified in concerns about transmission. They don't know about their pupils' or colleagues' approach to keeping to the rules.
Saylethewayles · 03/01/2021 23:27

That is utter rubbish.

@HeyBaby2020

I have seen lots of school staff are giving their head teachers a copy of the unions letter saying it is unsafe to return etc

I’m wondering how long these staff giving in those letters are actually planning on working from home and if they will carry on refusing to physically go in and make it difficult beyond these 2 weeks Hmm lots of schools are having to close because of this as it is

Hopefully your school will close then if sufficient numbers of staff have handed in a letter.
HeyBaby2020 · 03/01/2021 23:31

@ilovesooty my school is closed but I am still working in the key worker hub from tomorrow!

HeyBaby2020 · 03/01/2021 23:31

I am sorry I’m being a bit grumpy tonight, I love my job and my class and care about every one of them and just think it’s so unfair on them because I know they love school and we’re so happy to be back in September! Some of them have horrible home lives (not all obviously)

Hope it is a short term closure and this time next month we can be back in class x

Saylethewayles · 03/01/2021 23:31

Yes they have, and they were right.

The government have refused to implement any measures that could make schools safer.

MarshaBradyo · 03/01/2021 23:33

Op from the other side of the coin knowing how happy dc were to be back, it is hard. It’s really nice to hear you love your job, hopefully it won’t long.

There's much that's unfair about Covid. Try being a care home resident that has been under house arrest for ten months (and counting) with nothing but window visits with family or, at best, one visit every three or four weeks this autumn behind a giant plastic screen with one nominated family member for a maximum of one hour. In spring many watched their friends die and wondering if they'd be next as Covid ripped through the homes due to untested people being despatched from hospital into homes. Despite being told they were first in line for vaccines, most haven't received anything. Most will probably still be imprisoned until after Easter.

Personally, I think that is far more unfair than kids possibly having more than two weeks off school.

Saylethewayles · 03/01/2021 23:39

I really think if you think closing til February is not an option you need to seriously adjust your expectations. I don't mean that unkindly.

SleepingStandingUp · 03/01/2021 23:43

Do you really think that the people who have mixed am over Christmas, had sleepovers and parties for their kids etc will not spend two weeks at home studiously teaching them phonics and algebra? They'll still be in and out of each others houses, wandering round the shops for fun, letting the kids hang out etc.

Those of us who will minimise contact over the next two weeks did that over Xmas weeks anyway

SleepingStandingUp · 03/01/2021 23:43

I'm mentally preparing myself for Feb at best
Saylethewayles · 03/01/2021 23:47

My guess is after Feb half term at the earliest but after Easter is, I think, very possible.
