AIBU to complain that we as parents have to make the food for lunch at our little boy’s school?

The parents have to share the cooking duties, at our crèche/ school for 2/6 year olds. IMHO this isn’t very intelligent especially during the sanitary crisis. Starter, main and dessert. For the staff too.
On top of this, at the beginning of each half term, they reset the counter to the beginning of the alphabet, so we have ended up doing double shifts compared to those lower down in the alphabet.
To my mind the school should be doing all catering.

What type of school is this??

Can you not send a packed lunch and opt out?

sadpapercourtesan · 03/01/2021 18:12

Is it Steiner?

Sounds batshit to me. I wouldn't do it.

saffire · 03/01/2021 18:12

Is this in the UK?

Brighterthansunflowers · 03/01/2021 18:13

This sounds insane, you’re surely not in the UK? Is it the norm where you live?

pepsicolagirl · 03/01/2021 18:13

There is absolutely no chance I would be doing that. Especially not more times than latterly alphabetically placed people. LOL is this serious?! what do you make?!!?

Guineapig99 · 03/01/2021 18:13

What? How bizarre...

Screwcorona · 03/01/2021 18:14

Is sending packed lunch not an option? It does sound strange

SOLINVICTUS · 03/01/2021 18:14

You must have known this when you chose the school?
What country are you in?

Pukkatea · 03/01/2021 18:15

Send them to a different school?

JingsMahBucket · 03/01/2021 18:15

I was about to say YABU before clicking the title but upon reading, YANBU. I’d suggest changes to the roster like starting from the end of the alphabet.

LittleMissLockdown · 03/01/2021 18:17

Exactly what I was thinking. There is no way you didn't know about this before your child started at the school so it seems beyond daft to complain about it now.
PatsArrow · 03/01/2021 18:19

I've honestly never heard of this happening anywhere. Need more info.

WeeDangerousSpike · 03/01/2021 18:20

This can't be the UK, there's no way UK food hygiene regs would allow random parents to prepare food for the whole school?!

Frollocks · 03/01/2021 18:21

Are you in North Korea?

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 03/01/2021 18:21

Dont most people use childcare because they have jobs? How does this work? Where are you?

yankeedoodledandee · 03/01/2021 18:22

YABU not to give information for people to make an informed response

OverTheRainbow88 · 03/01/2021 18:22

Never heard of such things

Luxplus · 03/01/2021 18:23

One of my friends sends her children to a Steiner school and they have to cater for food there too in rotation. But she knew it beforehand so no surprise. But their rotation does sound more equal

This ^

Tell us more @Romika

Titterofwit · 03/01/2021 18:41

Is this in a book?

It cant possibly be in the real world.

And with a surname that starts with a letter right at the beginning of the alphabet I would be protesting loud and long if it was true.

insancerre · 03/01/2021 18:43

Maybe suggest they start from the end of the alphabet and work backwards

DeciduousPerennial · 03/01/2021 18:46

This can’t possibly be in the UK because none of the food standards rules - not to mention insurance liability for the school if a parent-cooked meal gave everyone food poisoning - would allow for this.

It’s utterly batshit.

Daphnise · 03/01/2021 18:48

Perhaps there needs to be a cleaning rota as well for the parents.

Also as you are benefiting from heating and lighting during your food preparation, you should be billed for gas and electricity.

CMOTDibbler · 03/01/2021 18:50

My german colleague was telling me just before christmas that it was his turn to do this at his sons kindergarten (I'm not sure if its Steiner, but its a very outdoorsy forest school kind of place), so its def a thing

fishonabicycle · 03/01/2021 18:50

This can't be a school. It's done sort of pre school/nursery.
