AIBU to complain that we as parents have to make the food for lunch at our little boy’s school?

The parents have to share the cooking duties, at our crèche/ school for 2/6 year olds. IMHO this isn’t very intelligent especially during the sanitary crisis. Starter, main and dessert. For the staff too.
On top of this, at the beginning of each half term, they reset the counter to the beginning of the alphabet, so we have ended up doing double shifts compared to those lower down in the alphabet.
To my mind the school should be doing all catering.

Serve up turkey twizzlers and smiley faces with baked beans every time it is your turn, that should soon sort out the problem.

Lunde · 03/01/2021 20:12

Is this a parental cooperative free school?
I know some Swedish ones that operate this way with rotas for catering/cleaning/DIY

Add 'Ze' to the beginning of your surname.

You'll never be chosen again Wink

Wonder if the OP will be back to clarify this rather bizarre set-up? Confused

Is this a cult? You need to have food hygiene certification before you can cook and feed other people?

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 03/01/2021 20:22

Reporting thread for what??

@Posturesorposes
What for?

PenOrPencil · 03/01/2021 20:28

I have encountered this in a different country, it is not unusual there. They should have made this clear before you started, though. Resetting the counter so that you don’t have to do as many duties as people further up the alphabet is unfair.

FlatulentSproutEater · 03/01/2021 20:36

Well this is weird Confused

Funneth · 03/01/2021 20:58

It’s a small international school in France.. and now on application, they advertised lunches on top at 5 euro per kiddie per day! We have to make all sorts of things and given that most coin random meats, try to mix things up a little with gosh and veggies..! It’s all a bit of a headache especially as we have a two month old to contend with and fill time jobs! Thanks for all your wishes and support!

Well one dose of accidental (minor) food poisoning (in the staff meals) should put an end to that - semi light hearted for those who need told. But in reality this is what you are asking for by having untrained people catering.
Either that of get caught out by the power of industrial ovens and serve something cremated.
And where do they stand should you injure yourself during food prep?
Are all the parents involved allowed/safe to be around children? Whatever the equivalent of DBS checks would be there?
I'd have to question the quality of education they'll be providing though if they haven't clocked that resetting to the start of the alphabet every half term might not be the most equitable system.

No no YANBU

satnighttakeaway · 05/01/2021 21:09

I'm trying to puzzle out what the presumable autocorrect of gosh and veggies was meant to say, it sounds like a fun meal Smile

hiredandsqueak · 05/01/2021 21:24

Dd goes to a Steiner school but parents don't cook as they have catering staff. Meals are free though and puddings only happen on Thurdays. Lots of seasonal veg and soup served as a starter every day apart from Thursdays.

Hope they like micro chips and chicken fillets!
That's what my kids get! Grin
