Am I this a cough, or am I just coughing?!

For the past 3-4 days I have coughed one or two times a day.
It’s not a cough after swallowing awkwardly, it’s an unrompted cough with a very very slight rattle in my chest. Normally I probably wouldn’t even notice, but times being as they are, I have.
Do you think once or twice a day counts as ‘a cough’ and I should get tested, or am I over-reacting?

No I don't think once or twice a day is a cough I think everyone coughs a couple of times a day.

Are you feeling unwell at all?

Stompythedinosaur · 03/01/2021 16:39

The criteria for being a continuous cough and needing a test is three episodes of coughing in 24 hours.

Before the virus I'd had a persistent cough for months. Finally saw my GP. Much to my surprise, she diagnosed it as acid reflux. With treatment it's a lot better than it was. So there are all sorts of reasons for coughs.

oopsiedaisie1 · 03/01/2021 17:50

@Mountainpika I had the same and so much worse first thing and immediately after food

This is probably going to be literally no help at all, but when I had covid my cough was literally the smallest cough in the world and only lasted for one morning. It was barely noticeable and I only went for a test because I’d been identified as a close contact of someone who had tested positive (through work). I thought I was wasting nhs resources and almost cancelled it. I also didn’t have any other symptoms/feel unwell for days after I tested positive (then started to feel shite a good few days later!).

I’m glad I went for the test as I would have done a good working week being a super-spreader but it wasn’t so simple as ‘have continuous cough, get a test’!
