Children should have a parent at home with them after school

why?

CountessFrog · 06/01/2021 00:13

Everything worst said

@zeitgeista

Children should have a parent at home with them after school

why?

Because it makes them feel safe and loved. And it’s the time they are most likely to open up about things. I probably feel that way because my parents never were. I came home from school and felt very alone.
zeitgeista · 06/01/2021 00:28

oh that's fair enough.

do you think there could be exceptions for one off's?

RunningFromInsanity · 06/01/2021 00:29

On the contrary I went to a babysitter after school, and me and her daughter (of the same age) are still great friends to this day.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 06/01/2021 00:30

Well my mum was NEVER not at home because she wanted to be there for us - come my teenage years I felt utterly, utterly suffocated. And no one thanked her for sacrificing her social life and friendships so that she could be there in case we wanted a chat. If you're a good enough parent then your kids don't need you 24/7, they can come to you when you're in the home.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 06/01/2021 00:33

Another unpopular opinion: key worker places in schools are for children where BOTH parents are key workers and can't WFH. If you are a nurse but your DH is WFH and "incredibly busy" then he should do what thousands of other parents have done in the first lockdown and just get on with it.

TeenyTinyDustinHoffman · 06/01/2021 00:42

How old does the child have to be before you can leave them home after school without them feeling unloved?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/01/2021 00:44

I think for us it was 8. Not as long ago as one would think👀 (not uk though)

Indeed. Considering that there is often a lack of availability of jobs that fit in between school hours, this would mean a lot of parents (let's face it, a lot of mothers) quitting their job or taking a massive pay cut to say "How was your day?" and to hear "Fine." In response.
ChochoCrazyCat · 06/01/2021 01:23

£100k is a huge salary, even in London.

Private school fees are not an essential bill.

Hoovering your house once a week is plenty.

Breastfeeding is overrated and the health benefits are exaggerated.

Nursery isn't purgatory and it's fine for a child to go full time.

It's fine to hold your knife in your left hand.

Ottilie is an awful name.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/01/2021 01:30

you think non binary is fake, great! that's your opinion but don't try and stop people from identifiying as it if it makes them happy and more comfortable.

It is my opinion that it's meaningless nonsense! But people don't need my permission to believe in nonsense! Just don't expect me to endorse it.

CanWeHaveSnow · 06/01/2021 01:32

That people that dont wear masks are selfish

(Not people with real medical conditions)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/01/2021 01:42

The feminism board on MN goes against the core principles of any real life feminism have ever been involved with.

Many people who slag off FWR don't have a clue what "real life feminism" is or what its "core principles" should be.

DioneTheDiabolist · 06/01/2021 01:50

And many of them do @Ereshkigalangcleg.

SendHelp30 · 06/01/2021 08:44

@MissingLinker indeed! This is all my DD has told me after school since starting. She’s not Y3.
Oh and “what have you done?” “Stuff”

Snoozysnoozy · 06/01/2021 08:52

criticism of aspects of communities (BAME, LGBT, religion etc) isn't always an 'ism' or phobia.

110APiccadilly · 06/01/2021 08:54

Lockdowns are not the optimal way to manage infectious disease.

Being married and having separate finances is more hassle than it's worth.

BalthazarImpresario · 06/01/2021 08:58

That trans women are women, trans men are men and trans rights are human rights, rarely goes down well.

BalthazarImpresario · 06/01/2021 09:00

Oh and any gender identification such as non binary is valid and your opinion isn’t necessary or required, be respectful it really isn’t difficult

MiniTheMinx · 06/01/2021 09:05

I'm a communist. Class before identity politics. Not interested in discussing gender......that's what opened the door to the problem. Feminism in the 70s was detrimental to working class women. Cultural feminist theory needs to be binned. English literature as an academic discipline is a crock of useless nonsense along with gender studies. Post modernist clap trap condemned us to immiseration.

And probably much more.

110APiccadilly · 06/01/2021 09:06

Co sleeping is more dangerous than using a cot or Moses basket. (Though less dangerous than accidentally falling asleep with a baby, so it has its place.)

Orlania · 06/01/2021 09:15

I think gender identification such as non binary is a navel gazing fad from people who want to appear different and special.🤷

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/01/2021 09:24

That trans women are women, trans men are men and trans rights are human rights, rarely goes down well.

Fully in agreement with statement 3. The issue is that women's rights are also human rights. But you know this.
