AIBU to ask about periods after having kids

My periods have returned after my second child, and they are so heavy!! I am on day 3 and no let up, I'm exhausted, emptying my mooncup loads and feeling really rubbish. Before my second I always had light to medium periods. Is this it now til menopause? I know others have it much worse, so massive sympathy for you if you do! I just want to hear others' experiences so I can steel myself.

How many have you had since giving birth? My first few after both births were very heavy with lots of clots but they did settle down.

Mine were horrendous after having babies. They book a year to return each time and when they came I wouldn’t be able to leave the house day two was always the worst. I’d say each them the first 4-5 were like this. Take note of which day is worse etc so you can plan for it. Good luck. It’s awful bit you’re not alone.

Is this your first one after pregnancy? My first was horrendous but they settled after that

RealMermaid · 03/01/2021 10:26

After my first baby, mine were very heavy (for me) like you describe and every time I felt awful, for the first five or six months. After that they started slowly improving and now one year on I'd say it's variable but nowhere near as bad as they were the first few months!

Thanks everyone, yes it's only the second one so hopefully it'll settle down over the next few months. I'm relieved! Thanks so much xx

This is interesting- mine have been very heavy since having my child (now 2.5 years) and very full of clots. I just assumed it was normal but not sure how. I'd like another child but haven't managed to get pregnant again. Hope it's not connected.

Yep same, for about 3 months they were horrific and I was thinking how the heck would I be able to go out in public. Was thankfully still on Mat leave. Still so much heavier than I’ve ever experienced but have calmed somewhat. I still have to wear a super tampon and towel and try change the tampon every 90 mins for the first 3 days.

I've returned to work and I'm so grateful to be working from home at the moment! I don't know what I'd do if I had to be in public.
