Is anyone else heading for online learning next week and their DC still hasn't got their promised laptop from last lockdown?! It is so frustrating!

The government made promises they couldn’t keep

Speak to you MP not school!

Taikoo · 03/01/2021 01:38

Think you'll be waiting quite a bit longer for your DS's laptop.....

probably forever

ineedaholidaynow · 03/01/2021 01:38

Blame the Government not the school

Icanflyhigh · 03/01/2021 01:40

My yr7 and yr11 got issued with laptops just after October half term from their school. They're basically, but functional so i can't complain.

SE13Mummy · 03/01/2021 01:41

It's extremely frustrating. I think my school are still waiting for 66 of the 67 expected.

SpringTime2020 · 03/01/2021 01:43

I'm not blaming school - it is coming from his social worker - not that I'm blaming her either!

@SE13Mummy - wow! Shock

One of the schools I deal with got one too (they needed many more) Maybe it is their way of saying they provided laptops to all the schools that requested them (without saying they didn’t provide the number requested)

SE13Mummy · 03/01/2021 01:51

It's not ideal @SpringTime2020 ! I hope your DS's will be fast tracked or that he is loaned one in time to access this week's learning. If he has a social worker, he should be able to attend school if you feel as though that's in his best interests. I realise that's not the same as having a laptop but if he's worried about missing out on learning, it may be a temporary solution.

SpringTime2020 · 03/01/2021 01:54

@SE13Mummy - it's not an option unfortunately as he's not in mainstream school.

I’m of the impression it’s a global issue.

happystone · 03/01/2021 02:03

The government over promised. I hope soon but probably never

My son is also in specialist provision, we got his tablet in the last days of August just before he went back to school. Right when it then didn't seem to be needed any more, although it looks like it will be now. I imagine you have chased it up with the SW? My son's disability SW put in the application as did school, but I didn't hear anything else from them until I got a text saying it'd be delivered. Can you email the social worker again to chase up? I'd be insisting at this point. I know they don't provide them themselves but I felt like they actually should be since he was missing out on £8000 worth of assigned social care (clubs, respite etc) - they never responded to that comment.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 03/01/2021 02:32

We had to provide our own laptops for students doing distance learning, but they had to meet school specifications.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/01/2021 09:49

Dh's school were allocated 8 in May - they were distributed

Then 8months later another 12 were allocated

So that's 20 altogether in a school that NEEDED 200+ - in 8 MONTHS

You couldn't make this shit up

(And they arrived in the last few days before Christmas meaning Dh was driving all over South East London delivering them - so that he couldn't do his actual job and spend the first 5 days of the 'holidays' catching up - then he spent the last week writing UCAS references Angry - yet another holiday he's worked through like all the others of 2020)

SE13Mummy · 03/01/2021 14:56

@SpringTime2020 is his school not open? I teach in specialist provision and we're expecting to be fully open.
