Am I unreasonable to ask if there have been theories about why Harry/Meghan called their child Archie?

I am a republican and don't follow royal reporting except when it hits me in the face (yes, that's you, Sky News).

I would be grateful if people could fill in my obvious ignorance about why he might have been named Archie? Obviously unless you're a sacked nanny, you're unlikely to know for sure, but there have probably been guesses by columnists which MNers might have read.

There always seemed to be a rivalry to Catherine by Megan

🤣 yeah right, in the Daily Fail and the other shitsheets maybe.

Those of us who are old enough can remember the same thing happening with Diana and Sarah Fergeson. Good princess vs bad princess in the tabloid media. Made up stuff to sell copies to the mean and credulous.

@Plonque

I was surprised they used the name because of how common it is (common as in popular not common as in peasant!) Archies are ten a penny round here, I wouldn't give my child such an over used name, personally. My first thought when they announced it was they had free rein to break stuffy traditions and they chose THAT? Confused
Me too! I thought it was a joke when I was first told.
Quaagars · 02/01/2021 17:40

Does that answer your questions @FoxyTheFox and @Quaagars?

I only asked if you were picking it up from Daily Mail as it sounds exactly like the stuff they come out with, or if you knew them personally.
From your post if it's true, seems you do know some of the Royal Family (still not sure if you know Harry and Meghan though, seems like complete speculation still) so yes it does answer my question Smile

Yep, old enough to remember that one!
Nothing ever changes

Unless, of course, young Archie Harrison is called "Georgie" by his parents...

George Harrison: please Let It Be true Grin

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 03/01/2021 19:35

Well. I tried to tell you my theory but I see it has been deleted.
Ho-hum, maybe too close to the truth... Wink

Roussette · 03/01/2021 21:18

Or maybe just unsubstantiated nonsense. That seems more likely Wink

Cary Grant was Harrys real father- everyone knows that. he named his son after Archibald Alec Leach.

Frankola · 03/01/2021 22:07

I've heard -

Arche - literally means "origin", "to begin"

Their Archewell Foundation also means "of strength and action".

TheKeatingFive · 03/01/2021 22:24

What a weird thread, what kind of answer were you hoping for OP? Confused

On another note, I read somewhere that Fergie wanted to call Beatrice, Annabel, but the Queen vetoed because it was too yuppie.

Tru Fax (off the internet)

TheKeatingFive · 03/01/2021 22:27

I genuinely think that Meghan didn't realise, fully, how our monarchy works - ie, the fact that if anything happens to William, it will be George who is next in line, not Harry.

I’m pretty certain that would have been covered by Harry/an aide/a briefing document/Charles.

Fucking seriously Confused

TheKeatingFive · 03/01/2021 22:29

I enjoyed Zara’s basic bitch choices Mia and Lena. Refreshingly unstuffy.

Squirrelnumbnuts · 19/02/2021 17:10

AIBU To believe Megs & Harry have not left the royal family. They have secretly agreed to move to the US so Archie can grow up and enter the race for the presidency so the UK will have more power when Wills is King! 😉 you know I’m right!
