Am I unreasonable to ask if there have been theories about why Harry/Meghan called their child Archie?

I am a republican and don't follow royal reporting except when it hits me in the face (yes, that's you, Sky News).

I would be grateful if people could fill in my obvious ignorance about why he might have been named Archie? Obviously unless you're a sacked nanny, you're unlikely to know for sure, but there have probably been guesses by columnists which MNers might have read.

So she could use it on her website?

Charlottejbt · 01/01/2021 23:13

If you jumble up the letters, it forms "hair" and "ce." This sounds like "heresy", an action that shows you have no respect for the official opinion. I'm going to bed in the next 30 mins, so I still have time for more questions...

:) I'm sure Harry was warned that if he married a divorced American actress the result would be anarchy - an Archie - geddit?

wherewildthingsare · 01/01/2021 23:15

It was in the papers after the baby's birth that Archie was the name of Meghans favourite pet , I think a dog and she loved to feed it frozen grapes apparently

spaceghetto · 01/01/2021 23:16

@Charlottejbt superb, excellent thinking! So obvious too when you think about it.

EagleFlight · 01/01/2021 23:18

@AliceMcK

Because it’s a nice popular name they both liked. A break from royal traditions which they both like. And Harrison, well because Harrison Ford is awesome!
Not because he is Harry’s son then?
Proudboomer · 01/01/2021 23:21

No it was major Tom Archer Burton who was nick named Archie to his troops.
He is the bloke who is supposed to have got Harry his spot in Afghanistan and he was also at the wedding so could well be true.

drinkinginamanger · 01/01/2021 23:25

I remember telling my DC he'd be called Harrison as he was Harry's son. We all fell about laughing. Turns out I was nearly right Grin

abbey44 · 01/01/2021 23:25

I heard - or read somewhere, can't remember which - that it was the nickname within the family for Prince George. I think he was reported to have told someone on a family outing that his name was Archie (before baby Archie came along). So maybe that gave them the idea. Or it could have been a complete coincidence, of course.

Aposterhasnoname · 01/01/2021 23:26

I really want to know what the whack jobs columnists think the reason is. Please could someone enlighten me.

Itsnotagazebo · 01/01/2021 23:28

Megan liked it and told Harry they were calling him Archie. Harry agreed. End of.

What is the conspiracy?

It’s a bit ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ for my tastes, but I doubt there’s any conspiracy behind it.

Oh thanks, Edith, another aspect then. We found a number of factors made up our dc's name choices.

Arche wouldn’t be pronounced Archie if they did take inspiration from the Greek arche used in the archewell foundation naming so I think Meghan twisted that a bit to fit in with the naming of the foundation rather than her son who was born and named before said foundation came into being and only came into being as the queen put the kyboosh on the original foundation name.

And it died, because grapes are poisonous to dogs, possibly a load of bullshit there.

Chocolate too, I bet. She also pours Jeyes Fluid on areas where cats like to sit and steals cuddly toys from babies if you believe what the papers say about her.
coldcoffeefy · 02/01/2021 01:05

I saw somewhere that it was a sort of anagram for Rachel (Meghan’s first name). If you just swap the L for I. I suppose it makes sense as he also has Harry’s name in there too

AlwaysLatte · 02/01/2021 01:09

Archie is quite a popular name, isn't it? What am I missing?
