Am I unreasonable to ask if there have been theories about why Harry/Meghan called their child Archie?

I am a republican and don't follow royal reporting except when it hits me in the face (yes, that's you, Sky News).

I would be grateful if people could fill in my obvious ignorance about why he might have been named Archie? Obviously unless you're a sacked nanny, you're unlikely to know for sure, but there have probably been guesses by columnists which MNers might have read.

🤪

ARudeTerriblePerson · 02/01/2021 02:12

I didn't know, before this thread, that it was George's nickname.

As with our dc, a complex set of reasons.

I just can't wait for Archie's teen years when he's furious that his parents stopped him from being a prince.

ARudeTerriblePerson · 02/01/2021 03:20

Can he not be a prince or king now?

I assumed it was because he’s “Archie, bald Harry’s son” because Harry is thinning pretty badly these days.

Proudboomer · 02/01/2021 04:15

Any title given to Archie would be a gift from the queen. Just like Meghan title of duchess was gifted to her upon her marriage to Harry. Harry was also gifted the title of duke even though he is a prince already.
Archie will always be in the line of succession even without a title.
But his place is pretty meaningless as he is so far down the pole.
As it stands the line of succession from our present queen is
Charles
William
George
Catherine
Louis
Harry
Archie
And he will go further down the pole if William and Kate have another child or when George, Catherine and Louis grow up and have children.

I thin he has fixed that little problem as he appears to have more hair now. When last photographed in the uk you could see his scalp from front facing photos but now his hair seems a slightly darker shade and a lot more of it.

Charlotte, not Catherine

"The Sussexes have said, 'Before Sussex Royal, came the idea of Arche – the Greek word meaning source of action. We connected to this concept for the charitable organisation we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son's name. To do something of meaning, to do something that matters. Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon"

Had to be some wanky bollocks coming from those two.

I read on another thread way back that Arche is a jumbled up version of Meghan’s birth name, Rachel minus the H. No idea if there is anything in this. But Archie could be a nod to her birth name in the same way as Harrison is a nod to Harry’s name... albeit that’s his given name rather than his birth name, Henry. Confusing.
Mummyoflittledragon · 02/01/2021 06:20

Oops minus the L....

This according to a recent book

@wherewildthingsare

It was in the papers after the baby's birth that Archie was the name of Meghans favourite pet , I think a dog and she loved to feed it frozen grapes apparently
Please tell me that's not true. Grapes are deadly for dogs.

[misses point if that was a joke]

TanglinOrchards · 02/01/2021 07:17

I did miss the point. Grin

Neenan · 02/01/2021 07:23

Because Meghan liked it

nosswith · 02/01/2021 07:30

Why a name is chosen by parents will often be the subject of discussion, just in this case it is beyond family and friends.

What a strange thread and how snidey by some posters.

Why did Andrew & Sarah call their daughters Beatrice and Eugenie, why did the Queen call her children what they did? They liked the names. That's it, simple.
How anyone can assume Harry was manipulated into calling his son Archie by Meghan, god alone knows.

Hailtomyteeth · 02/01/2021 07:42

He is named after Archibald Ormsby-Gore, obviously.

satnighttakeaway · 02/01/2021 07:47

I know you've said you are a Republican but you do know that the RF don't send out detailed notes on their complex baby naming deliberations don't you?

What strange views you have

TheClitterati · 02/01/2021 07:48

What has being "a republican" got to do with anything Confused

I think there will be big changes when Charles becomes King. He is not the sort of have a child who is not a Prince, or a Grandson.
