To ask how to break my Facebook habit?

I keep deactivating my account but clever Facebook allows you to reactive within thirty days! I'm adamant to keep off it. How did you stop yourself going back online? Hints and tip appreciated, please.

Delete your account. Or deactivate it and then never use it again

PurplePansy05 · 01/01/2021 17:32

What? This isn't correct. Fb gives you a choice whether to reactivate, it doesn't need to be after a specific amount of time. There are options to choose from upon deactivation and you have to actively log in to reactivate.

🍪, OP.

I deleted it, rather than deactivated. Deletion is permanent.

mrsnw · 01/01/2021 17:35

Even if you delete the account you can still reactive within thirty days.

So don't reactivate it - hardly rocket science

I have just deactivated mine, and have also deleted the apps on my iPhone and iPad, it's difficult to start off as it's a habit we are all so used to...
Cornetttttto · 01/01/2021 19:16

Delete and then remove the app icon from your main page so you aren't tempted to look for it. I have been Facebook free for 2 years and it is so refreshing not to feel sucked into it.

Sparklesocks · 01/01/2021 19:27

Delete the app from your phone.
Everytime you feel the urge to go on it, do something else. Maybe take up a new hobby and distract yourself.
Also remind yourself why you’ve deleted it and why you want to be rid of it.

If you really need help then ask your DP/a close friend to change the password.

Sparklesocks · 01/01/2021 19:31

Also when I’ve given up something I’ve got a ‘X days without...’ app, it’s positive reinforcement to see how many days/weeks you’ve gone without that thing and also has been helpful to look at when you’ve had a wobble as you don’t want to break that streak.

Willpower OP! I've gone off FB and Instagram for several months (6-9 month stretches) when I felt I needed a digital detox.

What do you think you'll be missing out on without FB?

The first few days are the hardest due to habit of picking up your phone and scrolling but then it becomes so refreshing and lovely to be "off-grid"!

mrsnw · 01/01/2021 20:33

I don't think I'll miss out on much at the moment. I guess just envious of everyone's perfect lives and families. Great ideas everyone.
