Have I been scammed with these clothes

Clappingforjoy · 01/01/2021 16:45

Okay so I was a bit careless and decided to get my ds some gym wear from a known retailer based in the UK so I googled the name and it took me to the website and I placed an order for a top and trousers.
After placing the order I realised I had ordered from a website in America not ideal but just thought that it was the American website and same stuff it was bearing all the same logos and prices where in sterling.
The stuff has arrived and the trousers although similar to what I ordered have a completely different logo to the front and are missing the one logo off the back, the top is completely different to what I ordered.
Ds already has some of this named sportswear which he bought from within the UK and the logos although very similar dont quite match the clothes also dont bear the name inside on any labels and there was also no price labels on them either and no paperwork accompanying them.
I have been in touch with this company and showed them what I recieved and what I ordered and they apologised but are desperately trying to get me to keep the clothes and take a 10% refund.
What would you do because I have asked for free return and full refund but I'm going back and forwards.

Yes sorry I think you've been scammed by a Chinese website. But I think it's easy to be scammed. On MN I've seen adverts for Newchic and IrisRuby(?) and thought ooh I like that jumper but go on Trustpilot and there are loads of warnings from people saying do not touch with a bargepole, you will receive something completely unlike what you ordered and to get a refund you have to return item to China.

I used to have Adblocker a year or so ago because the ads made MN so slow but I didn't bother downloading it when I got a new laptop because the ads didn't seem to interfere with the performance. But the fact that Google/MN don't appear to care about whether their audience might be ripped off is making me reconsider.

Waspnest · 01/01/2021 18:19

Aaaaand guess what ads I'm now being targetted with. Hmm

happystrummer · 01/01/2021 18:35

Waspnet - I;m getting Jigsaw...hopefully not fake Jigsaw :)

Bagamoyo1 · 01/01/2021 18:36

Keep arguing and they’ll probably offer you 20% off then 30% and so on.
I had this with a company in China that sold giant space-hopper size balloons - except they were just normal size balloons. I complained and got the usual rubbish - offering me increasing discounts, and telling me how I could give the balloons as a gift if I didn’t like them etc.

In the end PayPal refunded me but it was a long slog.

Waspnest · 01/01/2021 18:37

They possibly think you're classier than me! (FWIW they'd be better aiming Primark ads at me.)

happystrummer · 01/01/2021 18:52

I can only afford Jigsaw in the sales Grin

Signoftimes · 01/01/2021 18:54

It’s likely that they paid for google advertising that then returned their website at the top of the page, would have been really low cost as seem to be no other competitors for the term.

Unfortunately this is a textbook scam, sometimes from China but other areas as well, where they keep the advertising alive from short amounts of time so that they minimise getting caught

RaspberryCoulis · 01/01/2021 18:56

@JorisBonson

I've been scammed like this before. Turns out it was a company in China, I got the same weirdly worded emails from them.

The charity shop did well out of me that day.

No the charity shop didn't.

All you did was pass the job of binning the fakes onto them. Selling counterfeit goods is illegal.

OP you haven't been very smart here at all - lesson learned. Because that is SO obviously a fake website that it couldn't be more obvious. And you can see why the fakers bother - £24 for a pair of fakey leggings which probably cost less than a quid to make. Ker-ching!

Fernie6491 · 01/01/2021 18:56

Yep, I got caught by a clothing site advertising on Facebook. Nice casual top , looking like linen with an embroidered design on it. i did receive it but in a size that would have fitted a ten-year old ! And it was made in a very cheap polyester cotton, with the design printed on it. Only cost about £18, so in the end I wrote it off . Clearly a Chinese company, and no contact info available. But they also, like your company, operated via the USA, so seemed genuine.

I check VERY carefully these days!

Clappingforjoy · 01/01/2021 19:07

Bloody hell I've just read through the about us page and the grammar gives alot away. I never read this before.

Did you pay on a Visa card? If so you may be able to get a refund. You will need to email the company and request a refund and if you hear nothing you can start a claim against Visa - basically they are supposed to block your card when on suspect sites and if this doesn't happen you can claim money back.

I'm having to do the same for some DM boots. Really professional looking website, ordered 2 pairs from what appeared to be a UK site but what arrived was a pair of sunglasses from China!! I know Visa should have offered more protection as DH attempted to go back on the site and order another pair for DS but his Barclaycard rejected the site as a scam. Bastards.

Lots of it going on at the moment, Op & Visa are advertising everywhere that their debit cards protect from online scams so fingers crossed yours was and you get your cash back.x.

Gobbeldegook · 01/01/2021 19:27

My dh had similar a few years ago. He ended up with fake Nike football boots from a scam website that was supposedly the US Nike store website. They offered 10% refund or nothing and eventually asked us to return at our cost. Next thing bank fraud line is on the phone saying a Chinese company is trying to empty his bank account and can he come to the branch.
The boots had Chinese postage on them. So he took those with him and the bank did a chargeback for the money and cancelled the payment card. Be very vigilant of your bank account.
These cloned websites are rife

These cloned websites are rife

They may very well be, but this isn't a cloned website.

I read about one woman who ordered a toy electric car for hundreds and got sent a £5 electric toothbrush

Clappingforjoy · 01/01/2021 20:28

A friend of mine ordered a steam railway building kit at a special price and got sent a charging lead.Grin

I got caught in something similar from a Facebook ad. Paid by debit card. Tried to cancel order and then return and they just ignored me. I reported to trading standards and then called my bank (Barclays) they were great- organised a chargeback for me and the money was back in my account no bother.

Never heard from the company

MondayYogurt · 01/01/2021 20:42

Can't help with refund but suggest you Report the site link to google. Plenty of counterfeit sites do promote on there though.

twinsmummy5 · 02/01/2021 10:18

@WhereverIGoddamnLike , I didn’t say call them , I said threaten them with trading standards ! Even the mention of trading standards has been enough to make companies agree to the buyers terms in the past .

And even if it doesn’t help the op individually , collectively these complaints can help get the website closed down to stop it happening to others in the future , so surely the op would want to do this !!

twinsmummy5 · 02/01/2021 10:20

@WhereverIGoddamnLike also if you read above you’ll see that calling trading standards has helped someone on here . So maybe it is you giving out I’ll advice .

twinsmummy5 · 02/01/2021 10:20

ill*

KimchiLaLa · 02/01/2021 10:21

How did you pay? Contact PayPal or your card company.

KimchiLaLa · 02/01/2021 10:24

They may very well be, but this isn't a cloned website.

Agree. OP I do feel for you BUT please check the link and customer services section of the site next time, as well as the year created (usually at the bottom of the page). Even the name of the site is dodgy and the owners probably have multiple ones running.
WhereverIGoddamnLike · 03/01/2021 01:35

@twinsmummy5

No, I'm examining the actual role which reading standards play. Every single thread in here where the OP asks for help on a consumer issues and wants their money back, the first response is always "call trading standards".

They did not help individuals. They will not get you your money back.

Call citiizane advice or consumer advice and they may give you some practical steps to take and template letters to send etc.

However, none of that will help when you're dealing with scammers from China. You just need to accept it's gone if you didnt use PayPal or a service with charge back.

twinsmummy5 · 03/01/2021 08:10

@WhereverIGoddamnLike yes fine however when OP first posted , she stated that it was a UK based website / company .

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 03/01/2021 09:57

No, she said they were American however, from what she said it was blindingly obvious from the first post that these people were selling fakes.
