I am only posting here for traffic. I went a walk with my son on the 27th to a local spot which has lots of narrow steps. On the way down I slipped and fell with a thud. It was agony and I almost fainted and couldn't sit up at all. My DS (he is in his 20s) phone my DH and he came and I managed to get in the car. Now all these days later I can't stand up for long and can't sit. I can now identify that i have hurt the top of my back, the middle of my back and my tail bone. I am having horrible spasms when trying to sit up or go to the toilet but spend most of my time lying down with an ice pack trying to get comfortable. Phoned Dr. twice and have diazepam and strong painkillers which knock me for six. I am supposed to go back to work on Tuesday. How am I going to manage that when I can't even sit up - definitely can't drive. I could work from home but I can't imagine I could do this for very long or even make any sense for long. Dr. hasn't suggested A and E and neither Dr. I spoke to made a home visit. I'm in agony and turning over or moving in bed is torture. I am nearly 55 - any idea how long it will take to get some normality back?

Ask dr to refer for x ray?

clpsmum · 01/01/2021 15:13

Go to a&e you don't need a referral. Hope you get it sorted x

Call 111 or go to a walk in centre / minor injuries / A&E.

fancyginglass · 01/01/2021 15:23

Do you think I need an x-ray? Wouldn't the Dr. have suggested it? Don't want to waste the time of the staff when they are dealing with Covid. There is no walk in centre near me.

Call 111. They can decide which service is most appropriate for your needs, and often make an appointment for you so your wait time is reduced.

It could be that you're badly bruised and your back is in spasm. However a friend had a similar fall and pain, and she'd actually broken her hip. Sometimes where you feel the pain is not the problem, if that makes sense. Definitely worth getting checked out.

2typesofjungle · 01/01/2021 15:39

Please go and get an xray, GPs are not experts in back pain and it sounds like you might have done something serious.

When it comes to your back you are better safe than sorry.

BlueSuffragette · 01/01/2021 15:59

OP if you go to A&E and they see you are in agony they will arrange an xray and maybe a scan. They should then be able to find the cause of your pain and sort out relevant treatment. You may need time off work to heal properly. Good luck xx

Mykittensaremyfriends · 01/01/2021 16:05

Phone 111 and they will arrange for you to speak to a doctor and if you need an appointment for X-rays/scans etc. they will arrange these. It was set up to direct people to the most appropriate care setting and to avoid unnecessary trips to A&E. Hope they sort you out and you feel better soon.

Definitely X-ray
