It’s been a hard year, I have been out of work most of it due to lockdowns and DD7 having to shield ( post heart transplant )
I did give birth to a beautiful unexpected daughter ( knew I was pregnant for less than a month ) she is now home and beautiful addition to our family ( DS13 and DD7 )
I have just decided to put our house up on the market for a bigger place ( 3 bed to 4 )
I enjoyed having some time off work and spending some time with the kids which isn’t often something I get to do.
Hope everyone has a lovely new year well as much as possible ❤️

Stupidly taking my ex back in July. Ghosted me on 2018, took him back because I thought he had changed. Ghosted me the start of Nov, knowing how hard things are for me. After 4 years it's finally sunk in that he's nothing but a liar and a user. This year I won't be still in love and wanting him back. I'm angry that it took me so long to realize

I got married in August. Organised the (covid) wedding in literally two weeks.

Also moved to Hertfordshire the same month.

My employers allowed me to keep my job as everyone has been working remotely since March.

In good health also.

Nothing to complain about and I’m really grateful.

Saved money.
Did some redecorating.
Landscaped the garden.
Got to spend lots of time with husband and son.
Lost 3 stone.

After changing from August to march on a whim of can't be arsed to wait we were so lucky to actually get married this year. It's been hard at times being stuck with no childcare and DH at work but I feel I've had precious time with my toddler that I'll never get back and that so many don't get the privilege of having. I've enjoyed following your threads during all this Covid rubbish. Congratulations on your new addition and so glad all your DC are home and on the mend. Best of luck for 2021.

I'm about to finish my degree in bioscience and start my MSc in digital innovation and project management. I cut my hair how I've been wanting to for about 2 years, I will be working as a vaccinator after Christmas, I'm booked in for my final driving lessons to hopefully pass my test - something I have put off for years. Due to health issues I havent been abroad since 2013 and finally have holiday plans. After alot of soul searching this year, I am far happier with who I am and who I set out to be and realised I was probably quite lost a year ago. Oh a I got a merlin pass so I can now start my theme park channel on YT!

I had a fantastic year at work and enjoyed every minute of being on the covid frontline (despite the stress!) - also been inspired to apply for a super competitive training scheme next year - fingers crossed. Got away for a lovely brief holiday too. Lost a dear family member after a long illness but happy they were loved and at peace. Otherwise I'm just so so thankful my family was ok with the virus and for the support of some amazing friends.

Blooming well done. It's a huge effort but an amazing feeling.

I gave birth to my dd in September! Found out I was pregnant on 4th January last year after 16 months of trying including a mmc.

Dee1975 · 01/01/2021 08:57

Congratulations on surprise baby!
For me it’s being able to eat dinner with DC every night for most of the year. Rather than them eating first and me coming home late due to working / traffic.
Just being around DC has been amazing.

I got a new community hall built for our village - the project had got a bit bogged down and my friend and I decided we needed to give it a prod. We ended up sacking the architect and project managing it ourselves, we broke ground at the end of February and the builders handed the keys over just before Christmas.

Also someone who's been a mentor to me for the past four years in my property renovation work suggested we go into business together, so I'm looking forward to getting that started with him this year.

GnomeDePlume · 01/01/2021 09:15

DD1 bought a house with her partner and moved out. DS got a job. DD2 got married.

Didnt see any of those coming at the start of the year!

During lockdown, with DD1 moved out, we were able to do some house remodelling. DH and I finally have some space rather than feeling crammed.

Casschops · 01/01/2021 09:17

My only positive this year has been a COVId test.

Got a new job. I was on the verge of resigning from my previous role (was going to do it on the Monday) and then the Friday before, a really senior woman told me about an internal job available in another department that she had recommended me for as she knew I wasn't happy (I had done a small piece of work for her, which went well, and she was pleased with it, so was happy to look out for me).

I certainly wasnt happy in my role at the time, due to being in an very dysfunctional team, with a toxic team member and chaotic and emotionally unstable boss . I had stuck it out for just over a year as a new external recruit, but really suffered, (as had several before me - very high staff turnover).

I decided to apply for this new recommended role, despite no experience and very diminshed mental health caused by the previous year working in such a difficult environment.

I got the new job and I really like it. It's very tough, but so rewarding and challenging (in a good way). Am so glad that I was able to cling on in order to take it and not just resign. I have now been at my company for 2 years, so my cv hasn't suffered and am gaining new skills and insights and part of a really nice new team with a great boss.

I enjoyed a slower pace. No clubs etc
Loved getting out and tidying the garden
Enjoyed local walks
Read 17 books in 6 months of furlough

VainAbigail · 01/01/2021 10:39

Had a new baby. Made my best friend godmother. Awesome.

Lemmeout · 01/01/2021 10:46

Shit year, different reasons and unrelated to covid, resilience and determination are the things I am celebrating.

MarieFury · 01/01/2021 11:11

Launched a passion project with friends - a newsletter about feminism, science and women’s health. ( hexscience.substack.com )
It’s been a good distraction and a chance to let off some steam by writing fun (and swearyGrin) articles about stuff I’m interested in.
