To think electric throws are brilliant.

I’ve just got one, absolutely love it. So nice to sit watching telly at night under the lovely snuggly thing. The best thing is.....so cheap to use. Anyone else have one?

Furrbly Amazon have larger sized ones

lidoshuffle · 30/12/2020 20:34

I have the faux lynx Dreamland one; quite heavy but so snoozy, I love it.

Not good for working from home under though, I keep dozing off!

Bathroom12345 · 30/12/2020 20:42

Honestly I don’t know why they aren’t more well known. They aren’t expensive to buy or run. I hate being cold. Brought my Mum one and she loves it too.

Not sure on the downsides bar there isn’t a great deal of choice of colours.

Plump82 · 30/12/2020 20:52

I got this one www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07K6T3KBY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_t1_zBo7FbGJM9MA8?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21 but it was £29.99 when i bought it!
I love it for exactly the same reasons everyone else has mentioned.
Plus one of my cats is also partial to it! He tucks himself under it when im working.

We have one each.

Splashingincuddles · 30/12/2020 21:01

How have I never heard of this?? My electric blanket on my bed is my favourite possession. I’ve just ordered a throw for collection at Argos tomorrow. I cannot wait to spend a wild New Year’s eve with my electric throw tomorrow! Living on the edge!

Grenlei · 30/12/2020 21:01

I got one from my DC for Christmas and love it. I get very cold WFH so am very much looking forward to wrapping myself in it at my desk...I have already enjoyed lying under it watching TV Grin

FestiveFruitloop · 30/12/2020 21:07

OMG yes. I can't believe I didn't know they existed. Just bought myself one after being impressed by my mum's, which she got for Christmas, mine arrived today. So lovely to snuggle under it for the first time and I'm looking forward to cosy evenings on the sofa under it. Only problem will be keeping our cats (especially the oldest one, who feels the cold a lot) off it! Grin

TatianaBis · 30/12/2020 21:10

What's wrong with a fleece blanket and a hot water bottle?

Maybe I'm getting old.

DingDongDenny · 30/12/2020 21:10

Does anyone know if there is a warning if you have cats. I can just imagine mine kneading it and potentially electrocuting themselves

HmmSureJan · 30/12/2020 21:13

I'm afraid that just doesn't compare to a heated throw that warms up within twenty seconds.
enjoyingscience · 30/12/2020 21:19

Got one for Christmas. It’s the Best Present Ever. It’s so warm and lovely. The only problem is that the kids and my DH are also big fans, so I don’t get to sit and luxuriate under it as much as I’d like.

TatianaBis · 30/12/2020 21:23

Doesn't really appeal to me. I never got on with electric blankets either.

SciFiScream · 30/12/2020 21:30

How do you wash them?

lidoshuffle · 30/12/2020 21:36

@SciFiScream

How do you wash them?
You disconnect the electic connection and cable and the blanket (and internal wires) can be machine washed.
bloodyhairy · 30/12/2020 21:37

Mine - and all the others I assume - can be washed in the machine, as the electrical bit is detachable. Same as an electric (under)blanket for your bed, I suppose.
No cat warnings that I can see Grin, but it does have a 'no safety pin' warning sign on it, which I guess could equate to a cat's claws!
Oh, and mine isn't to be used by kids under 3.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 30/12/2020 21:39

Our cats love them, not been electrocuted yet. It gets too hot with a cat on your lap on the blanket though.

Procrastination4 · 30/12/2020 21:42

I have a regular microfiber blanket thing with sleeves and it’s the best thing ever! I use it during cooler summer nights when I don’t have the stove lit or don’t want to turn on the central heating and it really heats me up -but is very safe too (and a doddle to wash!). It was originally one of two we bought as “stocking fillers” for our sons which they never used at the time. One of them, realizing a few years later how useful they were, wasn’t long laying claim to his one!Grin

Puffalicious · 30/12/2020 21:43

Got mine after reading the Christmas bargain thread- £35 in Aldi. Was for garage visits from my sisters one at a time/ DS16 girlfriend to visit the garage. Now that we have it it's amazing!!! During the day when everyone else out I need no heating just this!

JohnMiddleNameRedactedSwanson · 30/12/2020 21:50

@Bathroom12345

That black one from Argos looks nice. When I brought my first one they only came in cream and brown. They don’t last forever (because I use it almost every day!). You honestly will never look back...

You can really get away with limited heating in the room when you use one.

Love electric blankets as well but that is for another thread.

How long did yours last? We have a cream and brown one which is about ten years old. I’d like to replace it as it doesn’t go with our living room since we moved but the blimmin’ thing just keeps on trucking.
FestiveFruitloop · 30/12/2020 21:52

[quote BashfulClam]@HamSandwichKiller this is mine. It’s not shiny it’s sort of chenille

That's the one I have, except mine's in cream, which will be a pain to keep clean but just looks so pretty I couldn't resist!

Davros · 30/12/2020 21:52

I bought a cat one some years ago. She loved it but the cable got lost and we moved so it was binned. I'll get one of these and share it with her

pinkphone · 30/12/2020 22:03

I wanted to buy one after reading this thread (especially as our boiler is apparently fucked and needs replacing, so it is freezing in here) but DH said no as "they are a fire hazard". Surely this is not really true?! I'm so cold... Sad

There is theoretically a small risk as with any electric appliance but modern ones have thermostat safety control and cut out after a while.
