To say this even though I will get flamed for it?

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor. However, I am asthmatic. Numerous studies have shown a link between bleach and lung diseases. Thanks to a Christmas Eve bleach the house session I am now on Day 3 of difficulties in breathing.

You are sensible adults, if you feel ill- see a doctor. However, if I help anyone to prevent harming their lungs by switching to gentler cleaning fluids then it will be worth getting my arse handed to me.

Before you buy the bleach ask yourself if a different product might be healthier for you and your family. In these dangerous times, any little change might make a difference.

Washing up liquid is a detergent not a soap so does not interfere with covid nor kill anything else

They contain surfactants.

Do you know what surfactants do?

FourTeaFallOut · 02/01/2021 14:13

I'm asthmatic, the bleach gets me, polish, oven cleaner, air freshener, carpet cleaning powder. Through attrition alone I've become an accidental eco cleaner Grin

A simple google proves that wrong.

There was a similar post a while back where a poster said that she was buying 7 bottles of bleach a week because she was using a bottle a day to "bleach the bath" Confused
Unbelievable!

Ordinary detergent was tested and recommended by the professional infection control journals back in April. Any surfactant/degreaser was found to be effective at damaging the outer coating of Covid19. I posted the links on here at the time when everybody was buying large quantities of expensive antibacterial stuff.

"Wiping down with detergent or dettol or antibacterial wipes does not kill virus, only bacteria. So does it probably does not protect against the virus"

I presume you must use bleach for hand washing and for bathing / showering

Angrymum22 · 02/01/2021 15:45

Any disinfectant is only active when it’s wet/in solution. For it to kill bacteria or virus’s most need to be left on the surface for at least 10mins. Bare this in mind when cleaning. For a kitchen surface you need to soak it and leave it wet for 10mins then rise the disinfectant off then dry thoroughly. Even bleach needs 10mins to kill significant numbers of microbes.

No, just for things brought into the house like shopping. Then I know that the house and contents do not have the virus on them, and can go ahead and wash self and clean house as normal, and not worry about the virus being on things. It works for me as gives peace of mind, and can relax at home knowing it is virus-free.

@Poetnojo Which generator did you buy and how are you getting on with it? I bought B0872J5HC1 but the instructions were minimal and so I’m not sure how long I need to put it on for, how to get the different concentrations etc. Wondering if I made a mistake getting it and I should send back or if I just need to do some more reading around and work it out.

Anyone else got one and getting on fine?

Poetnojo · 03/01/2021 10:30

@Capezio, that's the same one I got. I ran the cycle twice for using in the bathrooms but just once for kitchen and hand sanitizer. Do not screw the lid on tight when running the machine as it produces gas that needs to escape. This has literally been the best cleaning solution I have ever used and it doesn't make me cough or sting my eyes and nose. I also dont bother wearing gloves when using it. I will never be without one of these in my house in future.

Capezio · 03/01/2021 11:02

@Poetnojo Fab thanks. I went for a second round and could smell a change after the second. Did yours come with naff instructions too? I’m excited about the gentle on skin part, as I’m struggling with raw hands at the moment and I did read some people even find it helps as a treatment.

Skipsurvey · 03/01/2021 11:05

oh i ran out of floor cleaner and have been using bleach, and i now have chest pain, i guess that could be why - I am asthmatic.

Londonnight · 03/01/2021 11:06

I use bleach for the toilet, that is it.

My manager at work is one who thinks bleach is the answer to everything and uses it on cups and cutlery and anything else she feels needs bleaching.

Poetnojo · 03/01/2021 20:38

Mine did come with naff instructions too capzio, but I had read online that you could run the machine a couple of times with the same solution in it to make it stronger. One cycle is probably enough for most things though.
