Prince Friedrich was a better option than the Duke.

AIBU just finished episode four and dp and I were laughing at how ridiculous the whole thing is (but loving it). All Daphne wanted was a husband and a family of her own: the duke can't offer it (and no spoilers but is a bit of a dick in the way he tells her) but Prince Friedrich can and is offering her a family, children, and stability. In fact, they seem to share a lot of core values. Not to mention there's no dicking around, he just says what he wants and offers her what she wants. Is Daphne impressed? Nope...runs straight to Mr Too Complicated To Commit who is so emotionally stunted that he lets her think he hates her enough not to marry her. Sigh.

The Duke is a ride, but.

Lalaloveyou2020 · 30/12/2020 08:28

Oh god yes. Not denying that the duke is beautiful. Just so complicated.

Totally agree.

Their whole relationship is just exhaustingly hard work. (Spoiler alert: it gets more annoying as the season progresses)

HelloDulling · 30/12/2020 08:31

But she wanted to marry for love too. And the Prince had hair only a mother could love.

Mumtoalittlegirl · 30/12/2020 08:32

Oh my gosh yes!

I was saying to DH the whole time I would have chosen him, he reminds me of DH though so maybe that’s why. Smile

I’ve just never been attracted to the bad boy types though!

LadyHastings · 30/12/2020 09:26

Have you seen the Duke?? Can't blame her. She was ready to risk it all lol

LadyHastings · 30/12/2020 09:27

@HelloDulling

But she wanted to marry for love too. And the Prince had hair only a mother could love.
😂
singsingbluesilver · 30/12/2020 09:33

No - if she had married this prince she would have to put up with the queen constantly interfering in her life as a source of amusement.

Also, in the books it is much more clearly explained. the Bridgetons only marry for love. Daphne and Simon do love one another, but due to his very traumatic childhood he finds that difficult to acknowledge.

Daphne is also very close to her family (Anthony is getting a bit of a poor rep in the series - he is a much better and close brother in the books.) She really could not have married a prince and had to go away to Prussia.

Also the Duke is very, very, very dishy.

Poorlykitten · 30/12/2020 09:45

Complicated Duke over wishy -washy unattractive prince any day.

Camomila · 30/12/2020 09:45

I also would have married the prince rather than the duke - he seemed sweet and less effort/moody.

GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin · 30/12/2020 09:54

Clearly the Duke was good in the sack (and by the lake, and on the library steps...) but I still can’t get past his anachronistic lack of a hat.

I’d have gone with the Prince too. Still, Daffers seemed happy in the end - nothing says true love like your beloved not finishing himself off into the linens.

Preggo100 · 30/12/2020 10:07

Errr sexual chemistry?! Have you SEEN The Duke? Must admit I'm an absolute sucker for a bad boy though

Grobagsforever · 30/12/2020 10:09

Eh? What are you all on about?

GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin · 30/12/2020 10:11

@Grobagsforever Bridgerton, on Netflix. Jane Austen meets Jilly Cooper Grin

Bells3032 · 30/12/2020 10:13

I would have gone with the Prince too. Think Daphne was going to but she got seen smooching Duke in a moment overtaken by pure passion. What can you do.

The Prince reminded me of my husband though...not in looks but just in temperament - it's the boyish smile and the kind eyes

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 30/12/2020 10:16

The Prince is lovely. Only half way through (D&S just about to marry) and hoping he finds a charming young lady who will make him happy and loves him for him, with whom he can go back to Prussia and stay away from the Queen’s interference.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 30/12/2020 10:17

However my namesake would definitely not agree - she was all about rejecting the sensible choice in pursuit of a man who troubled her dreams.

Starllyow · 30/12/2020 10:19

I wouldn’t have gone for the Prince - the Duke is the one she loves!! I swerved many lovely guys who could’ve offered me what I wanted in theory (although no princess Wink) but I wanted DH. He’s a lot more edgy, sexy and just captivating. I think the Duke is very similar character except with a horrible complicated childhood story. I’m at the same point too by the way OP!! Loving it!!

ScurrilousSquirrel · 30/12/2020 10:54

@ReallySpicyCurry

The Duke is a ride, but.
I literally opened the thread to post this Grin
Lalaloveyou2020 · 30/12/2020 11:49

Yes I feel we must mention again how much of a ride the duke is. I have also read the books @singsingbluesilver but just basing my opinion on the way it's portrayed on tv - which is the way most people will view it!
