Health anxiety and lump in tummy

So for months now I’ve felt this pressure in my stomach. It’s to the left of my belly button. Standing up and pushing against my jeans, or tank top, lying in bed in my side and just pressing against my skin from the inside.

I saw the doctor who said it was a small hernia.

Saw another doctor for a different reason who couldn’t find a hernia so has referred me for an ultrasound.

Silly me with my health anxiety has been on google and it has notified me of a sister Mary Joseph nodule which is a sign of internal cancer (I also have gastric issues) and just general tumours.

I can feel a lump in my tummy if I feel for it so I don’t know why the doctor couldn’t.

I know the answer is to just wait for the ultrasound and that nobody can diagnose me over the internet but I am really struggling now with anxiety thinking I have cancer.

So - has anyone out there had the same symptoms and it turned out to be a hernia? I feel like hearing stories from others who had the same symptoms and it was benign would reassure me whilst I wait for the scan.

Thank you

I would say trust the doctor - if s/he said it is a hernia I would think that is what it is.

Also, as you have an ultrasound booked, I think you should focus on assuming it’s fine until you are told any different. Are you familiar with any cbt exercises? You could try some of those combined with some deep breathing/meditation if you start to feel too anxious. Also exercise is really helpful.

And no more googling - it’s evil!

Also - I’ve just googled the nodule and looked at images - it’s VERY distinctive and doesn’t look anything like a hernia so I would say you categorically do not need to worry. Now don’t go googling again just take my word for it and be reassured Wink

Ah thank you Holly. You’re entirely right, google is evil. I have just bought a book on CBT for health anxiety so I am going to read it this afternoon x

Hi any updates on your scan? I have similar symptoms to you as well.
