AIBU to ask why we can't have threads with voting about Coronavirus policies?

Just that really.

I had a thread asking about our response to covid particularly the economy in AIBU last week with voting enabled. It was moved to the Coronavirus topic and voting was switched off. MNHQ wouldn't move it back again when I asked.

Today there was a question with voting about whether schools should be shut which has also been moved over. I think schools closing again is a pretty important topic for parents.

YANBU - We should be allowed to discuss the wider implications of covid policies in AIBU with voting. The coronavirus topic is great for support threads about the disease itself and more in depth discussion of the data etc

YABU - AIBU needs to be a covid free zone!

I don’t get why people get so annoyed about topics they deem to be in the incorrect area - just don’t read it if you’re not interested.

The problem is that at the start Covid threads outnumbered any other thread. It wasn't worth coming onto MN.

I am sick to the back teeth of Covid so letting 'votable' threads stay in AIBU would end up being Covid heavy again. Some threads as you say are only about wider implications but this would be harder to patrol. It would become a free for all.

Maybe MN could activate voting in other topics.

When will people start listening?

I think there should be a ‘COVID AIBU’ section. The answer is generally yes but people could hide the whole topic and keep normal AIBU for the petty gripes etc

Maybe voting should be enabled in other topics than AIBU which gets clogged up by topics shoehorned in there just to whip up voting for a posters own hobbyhorse or political agenda.
