I know cpn/care coordinator tend to have around 30 patients each. Just wondering what the average psychiatrist case load is. I know it’s not intended that psychiatrist know their patients as well as cpn’s do but do they hold any knowledge really of the patients on their caseload? Or are they not really involved in the patients care?

Locally, it is not unusual for a CPN to have 100 on a caseload. 30 could be seen as 6 a day x 5, but most patients are not seen weekly.

Psychiatrists may have high numbers but some patients will be seen once and discharged while others have medications reviewed 6 monthly etc, so the number open to them at any one time is fairly moot.

800 isn’t uncommon in the trusts I’ve worked for
