To ask for another "the holiday " type film

I watch this every year but haven't watched a whole lot of films ever really when I talk to friends. Never seen die hard or Star Wars or Notting Hill as someone examples.
I like the holiday despite its twee bits and lack of realism. In fact probably because of those things, it appeals to my brain that after a mad year, as for so many of us, longs to just switch off for an hour or two and feel good. It's pure escape and relaxing and I make no apology for it. I have another day off before work and would like to immerse myself in another feel good (but importantly no tear jerking/ upsetting themes, as I've had enough illness and death that I don't find them entertaining, just upsetting).
I may start another thread asking for what happened next in The Holiday story for fun but until then...give me tonight's viewing please?

Possibly New Years Eve or Valentines Day, multiple stories in each, some funny some a bit more tear jerking. Neither are particularly christmassy though....

The Proposal is good to with Sandra Bullocl and Ryan Reynolds, again not christmassy!

My mind is drawing a blank on christmas themed ones!

XmasSkies2020 · 28/12/2020 16:59

Always be my maybe on Netflix is good

Lovewineandchocs · 28/12/2020 17:00

Serendipity is a good film.

EezyOozy · 28/12/2020 17:02

Sideways !

BrieAndChilli · 28/12/2020 17:04

I loved Last Christmas but there is a sad bit.
Holiday date is funny
Bad Moms/Bad Moms Christmas
Any of the Christmas Prince films
Christmas made to order

Q1w2e3 · 28/12/2020 17:04

I came on to say Serendipity too - love that film!

purpleme12 · 28/12/2020 17:05

Yes I also came on to say Serendipity!

JustAPassingFashion · 28/12/2020 17:06

I always lump the holiday and love actually together.... similar ish films, I think?

winterbabythistime · 28/12/2020 17:08

Thanks for this thread op!

sohypnotic · 28/12/2020 17:14

Christmas with the coopers and The family stone are both sort of similar - multiple story lines, family drama whilst getting together for the holidays, but ultimately feel good.

TheRogueApostrophe · 28/12/2020 17:15

I came on to say New Year's Eve. Serendipity is a great shout too.

What To Expect When You're Expecting and He's Just Not That Into You are also good - multiple stories, lots of well known actors. Not Christmassy though.

msgloria · 28/12/2020 17:16

Pretty old now, but While You Were Sleeping?

littlepattilou · 28/12/2020 17:16

@polkadotpjs

Try this. It's fab. Grin

littlepattilou · 28/12/2020 17:16

NEW IN TOWN! ^

TodgerStrunk · 28/12/2020 17:17

Crazy Stupid Love.
Modern Love - Prime series.

dayswithaY · 28/12/2020 17:17

The Family Stone. If you don't focus too much on the details it's a lovely, warm film. I also think you can't go wrong with The Devil Wears Prada.

Notsofast1 · 28/12/2020 17:20

Notting Hill is actually really good! You would definitely enjoy it if you enjoy love actually or the holiday

Rtmhwales · 28/12/2020 17:22

I love the Family Stone too. And it's christmassy.

ihatethecold · 28/12/2020 17:22

Modern love on prime is amazing.
Lots of famous actors and the stories link up at the end.

ChequerBoard · 28/12/2020 17:24

Music & Lyrics with Drew Barrymore & Hugh Grant. Love this for Hugh's flashback scenes as lead singer of 80s boyband Pop! If nothing else.

Aibuuuu · 28/12/2020 17:25

My favourite Christmas ones are

The family man
Untamed heart
Love actually
The holiday

Lonoxo · 28/12/2020 17:26

The Holiday is by Nancy Meyers. Her other films are good too. Maybe try “Something’s Gotta Give”, this is the film that turned me into a fan, saw it at the cinema, thought I would hate it, never laughed so much. It’s complicated and the intern are also watchable.

polkadotpjs · 28/12/2020 17:48

Ooh thanks. Lots of ideas. I've seen Sideways recently actually. And actually watched Withnail and I fit her first time too
Told you Im behind!!

Last holiday with Queen Latifah and the hunk that is LL Cool J is a definite watch.

KyraGoose · 28/12/2020 17:50

Notting hill definitely and while you were sleeping.
