How do you plan to celebrate this NYE?

I’m guessing most people will be in ... anyone planning anything special / different to help celebrate it at home?

Considering a dine in for 2 meal deal and taking the opportunity to get dressed up at home. Anyone know who is doing one this year and which is best? M&S, Waitrose, Tesco?

Amanduh · 27/12/2020 21:16

I will be doing buffet, games and fun at my parents with DH and the DC. Then home for normal bedtime for the DC and drinks and snacks for me and DH with tv and music. See in midnight and then to bed!

TeeniefaeTroon · 27/12/2020 21:17

We were in tier 1 (Scotland) until yesterday when we were all moved to tier 4. We are having my parents and mother in law around regardless. We have stayed in for the last 2 weeks as my grandparents were coming round for Christmas dinner along with my parents and MIL. (All within the rules). We're not going out between now and Thursday so there's no further risk.
I have followed the rules for the last 9 months but I'm not following them for Hogmanay.

@Ginogineli

Well I’ll happily be honest and say I’ll be having friends and their kids over - 4 families tier 3.

Most people I know doing similar

Incredibly selfish. I hope you see sense and don't go ahead with this idea.
letsnotscaretheneighbours · 27/12/2020 21:18

Home made curry, beer and bed before midnight because hubby is working next day.

StanfordPines · 27/12/2020 21:19

@Mincepiehangover

Tesco finest meal deal for us. Secretly pleased l don't have to go out this year!
I’ve literally not heard a single person complaining about missing New Years. I think that secretly no one likes it.
FraggleShingleBellRock · 27/12/2020 21:19

I'm going to my sisters for the night. We are bunked together and I'm a carer so share the load of her kids with additional needs. Will likely be board games, movies then lots of nice food and drinks and some fireworks and sparklers.

To hell with the school staff that they might spread COVID to when they go back. Fuck’em. It’s only the old and fat who die anyway so who cares.
ilovesooty · 27/12/2020 21:31

@Ginogineli

Tier 3/4 makes no odds it’ll still be going ahead

We all happily agree to mix with each other but not elderly

See I see no one indoors over 50 - u less fleeting contact in shop with mask

Half people on here mixing in bubbles all week - bubble or not you are putting people at risk more than me. Bubbles do not equal immunity. It’s bubbles that should be banned as they encourage cross generation mixing

My two best mates work in icu and are openly sat around doing Netflix enjoying the nhs discounts - their words not mine

Are you referring to childcare bubbles or support bubbles?
ilovesooty · 27/12/2020 21:34

@LajesticVantrashell

But the rules are completely arbitrary! For all you know, *@Ginogineli* didn't socialise with any family on Christmas Day but tons of others did because it was ok to. It wasn't ok, clearly.

We're having a takeaway, bottle of red and Hootenanny. I'll be asleep on the sofa by 10.30pm.

She's made a number of posts demonstrating a total disrespect for rules and guidance.

Absolutely nobody I know is doing this. Thankfully.
SylvanianFrenemies · 27/12/2020 21:36

We will have crisps in little bowls, sausage rolls and shortbread. At midnight we will pause the film we are watching to say "Happy New Year". So, the usual crazy party times.

Oysterbabe · 27/12/2020 21:39

It's DD's 5th Birthday. We're going to the zoo then ordering pizza. We'll have some fizz once the kids are in bed but probably won't stay up.

TheChosenTwo · 27/12/2020 21:39

First time in 20 years we will be home doing nothing. Have had a big family holiday with dh and all our siblings and dc since before mine were born. It started when my brother had a baby and decided that he and his girlfriend would go away with the baby for the weekend because they couldn’t nor did they want to go out. And it grew from there. More and more of us have dc now and this way we get a great celebration and and a family holiday out of it. All the cousins have a blast, whoever had the small babies love it as they can pass them round, can go and have a rest while the others entertain said little ones... it’s honestly just lovely.
Usually around 30 of us now all rent a house together and have a week of walks, pub lunches and parties.
Not this year. Of all the things we’ve missed out on or cancelled this year, we are the saddest about this.
My dc have never been home for new year!
So it will just be the 5 of us. Not sure but will be very low key and different for us.

StripyHorse · 27/12/2020 21:42

We never go out on NYE, kids are getting older so now want to stay up. So board games, snacks and a couple of drinks for us adults. I am working the next day, contact tracing and I expect we will be busy.

Well I hope you & your friends have the decency to stay away from the hospitals should any of you get COVID.

Thankfully the people I know have much more sense.

...and fir what it's worth I didn't see anyone at Christmas either (I was here completely alone)

1FootInTheRave · 27/12/2020 21:47

We should have been away and I'm so so disappointed.

Will prob just have food and drinks etc. Full of a cold at the mo so hoping to at least feel better.

Shit end to a shit year.

rslsys · 27/12/2020 21:47

Ran pubs and Hotels in our 20's & 30's. NYE was a nightmare. Same people who wanted to be drinking until 4 in the morning would be demanding a 7:30 breakfast!
We'll be in bed by 10:00, the date change will happen regardless!

Haggyhaggerson · 27/12/2020 21:47

At home, me and the dog. I can technically go to my support bubble’s home (single) but won’t. I don’t enjoy NYE anyway. Will probably have a Zoom quiz/catch up with family and then head off to bed by 10 🤣 hopefully nobody bought fireworks to wake us up!

Ragwort · 27/12/2020 21:49

Same as every other evening since March ... stay in, nice meal, drink wine, try to agree on something to watch on tv .... only difference is I guess we will force ourselves to stay up until midnight. Grin

Nefelibata86 · 27/12/2020 21:51

@Ginogineli your behaviour has consequences for others. The last 2 people I know told to self isolate say their only contact encounter could have been doing a food shop.

Pyewhacket · 27/12/2020 21:51

I gonna put my feet up on the sofa and watch some “undemanding” TV.

Ilovesandwiches · 27/12/2020 21:52

Usually go out but obviously not this year! Looking forward to a chilled evening with a takeaway :) and not being hungover for the first day of the year!

Vates · 27/12/2020 21:52

I have always dog sat and enjoyed it (whippets for life!) for my family going to parties. My Sister did ask if I would be ok this year (they're staying as many are). So, nothing. I normally go to bed early and curse when the fireworks wake me up (I loathe fireworks and personally think they should be banned).

TheRaccoon · 27/12/2020 21:53

I love New Years! We usually have a couple of our friends round, go for dinner and drinks then go home and play games together until around 2am.

I’m gutted we can’t celebrate this year, but I’m also pregnant so wouldn’t be partying much anyway Blush
