I’m guessing most people will be in ... anyone planning anything special / different to help celebrate it at home?

@Ginogineli

Well I’ll happily be honest and say I’ll be having friends and their kids over - 4 families tier 3.

Most people I know doing similar

I hope you don't live anywhere near me.
DfEisashambles · 27/12/2020 20:31

Canapés, fizz, dressing up and a zoom party.

plominoagain · 27/12/2020 20:32

Working , same as the last 15 years . Refereeing fights between drunken idiots , being shouted at and then driving home because there’s sod all public transport at 5am on New Years Day.

AliasGrape · 27/12/2020 20:38

We were going to go to my sisters which we do most years, could technically form a support bubble with her (we have a young baby) and do it anyway but it would involve travel to a tier 4 area so we’ve agreed to give it a miss. I’m sad I’ve not seen her in so long and I could really have done with the break.

Instead we’ve booked to go to one of those light walk things on NYE in the early evening. We’ll do that, some kind of easy dinner and then I’ll probably be in bed at 8 with the baby.

Mousehole10 · 27/12/2020 20:42

We are going to our support bubble and having a lovely dinner cooked for us followed by games and drinks. Really looking forward to it.

And this is the problem!!! So many people will be doing the same and clearly don't give a shit about the impact it could have on others, plus the message that it sends to the kids. Let's hope you don't pop round to visit granny in the 1st.

My DN will be working on an ICU covid ward on NYE as she did on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as they are at capacity and under staffed due to staff isolating/ill with covid, but hey you enjoy your party... FFS. Know who I have tons more respect for.

Hope you have a plan B, as depending in the review (Boris said this was on the 30th?) you may not be tier 3!!

Given how the South East and London is being decimated at the moment, I'd advise caution and prudence re: group gatherings.

Northernmummy80 · 27/12/2020 20:51

Sleeping as I do most years, I’m not cut out with kids for late nights 😂🤣😂

TheDaydreamBelievers · 27/12/2020 20:51

We have ordered in a fancy dinner from a local restaurant. Then we will watch some tv, kiss, and go to bed at 12.02

autumnboys · 27/12/2020 20:56

We are in tier 4. Probably a Chinese takeaway and games/films. Our Christmas tree etc will still be up. Walk on NYD. Two older are teens and ds3 is 11 so can try and stay up until midnight if he likes!

GnomeDePlume · 27/12/2020 20:56

Hot roast beef sandwiches, some wine then an early night. I still havent got over finding out that Jools Holland's Hootananny is pre-recorded!

Thanks a lot. People like you who will have us all stuck in these tiers for longer.
Ginogineli · 27/12/2020 20:57

Tier 3/4 makes no odds it’ll still be going ahead

We all happily agree to mix with each other but not elderly

See I see no one indoors over 50 - u less fleeting contact in shop with mask

Half people on here mixing in bubbles all week - bubble or not you are putting people at risk more than me. Bubbles do not equal immunity. It’s bubbles that should be banned as they encourage cross generation mixing

My two best mates work in icu and are openly sat around doing Netflix enjoying the nhs discounts - their words not mine

Kintsugi16 · 27/12/2020 20:58

We’re having a tasting menu.
Each family member is preparing a course.

We also have some games (Vertellis) and all compiling a round of a quiz.

HollywoodTease · 27/12/2020 20:59

Fizzy wine and an all-evening virtual open house.

Will have a facebook "room" open and friends will be popping in and out throughout the night so say hi or stop for a longer chat with me or each other. Hopefully means none of my family and friends will be alone unless they want to be.

Just praying my broadband is up to it!

Kintsugi16 · 27/12/2020 21:01

Ginogineli

I suspect you’re feeling proud of yourself.
You should be ashamed. You and your selfish, ignorant friends

HazeyJaneII · 27/12/2020 21:04

Pizza, zoom call with friends we normally see, our kids will zoom call with their kids, ds will get manic, we'll all fall asleep in a pile of duvets.

totiredtocaresixk · 27/12/2020 21:04

Sleep x

AiryFairyMum · 27/12/2020 21:05

Dinner, sparklers and fizz.

LajesticVantrashell · 27/12/2020 21:05

But the rules are completely arbitrary! For all you know, @Ginogineli didn't socialise with any family on Christmas Day but tons of others did because it was ok to. It wasn't ok, clearly.

We're having a takeaway, bottle of red and Hootenanny. I'll be asleep on the sofa by 10.30pm.

inappropriateraspberry · 27/12/2020 21:05

I think we're having a family fancy dress party with party food and an early 'midnight' on the tv, so the children can go to bed at a decent time. Then we'll have a few drinks and see in the real New Year!

SimonJT · 27/12/2020 21:05

Well we were going to be sending my son to Grandmas for two nights as we had booked a nice little lodge in the forest with a hot tub, but that clearly isn’t going to happen.

Instead we are doing the lap of lights at Silverstone, we’ve booked a takeaway and I got some ‘fireworks’ for my son, sparklers and those streamy candle things.

geekone · 27/12/2020 21:06

No celebrating of NYE here celebrating Hogmanay 🥳. This will be done with crappy Scottish telly party food from tesco and a large gin for the bells and the sending of my CV old out of the back door with the old calendar leaving the door open to let the old year out then him coming round to the front with the new calendar opening the from door to let the new year in.
Then we phone everyone in the family send child to bed have another drink and go to bed.

This is the same as every year sometimes just the three of us, sometimes with some grandparents. No fancy stuff no first footing this year though.

1Morewineplease · 27/12/2020 21:07

Staying in, a nice meal, bed by ten. Really hoping no one near is letting off stupid fireworks.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/12/2020 21:09

M&S Indian takeaway box and extra bits, wine - just me, DP, and the cat. Hopefully not too many fireworks.
