Opening presents from partners in front of wider family

Is it strange or normal to save your presents from your partner to open in front of the wider family? I don’t mean private / inappropriate presents, that, of course, would be weird!

Was just thinking about how one upside of our covid - separate Christmas this year has meant for once I haven’t had to sit through BILs and SILs opening all their presents from each other.

Me and DH open ours from each other at home before we go over to see the rest of the family. I just think it seems a bit showy to do in front of others, I don’t particularly care to see what bath mat you bought for your house, and on the other end of the spectrum, I don’t particularly care to watch you surprise each other with a lavish trip to the Maldives...but am I just a massive Scrooge and maybe it’s a normal thing to do?

YABU: it’s normal
YANBU: it’s strange / show-offfy
