To think a short, hard, lockdown is better than a soft one dragging on for months?

Would you rather go hard for a shorter duration? (YANBU)
(Stay at home order. Daily exercise outside, only see your bubble, shop as infrequently as you can, work from home if you can, most things closed, schools and universities closed.)

Or have a softer lockdown for longer? YABU)
Unlimited shopping, schools open, Tier 3 rules, I guess.

It seems when you look across the globe at the countries that have regained control the hard lockdown do seem to have taken affect

What about Spain? Italy/France?

All hard lockdowns with cases shooting up on opening.

Didn't work in Wales.

"I don’t remember hearing about many outbreaks in schools between March and May anyway, despite the fact key worker kids would presumably be the most exposed due to their parents jobs"

That was due to being able to being able to have full social distancing as there were not many children in schools

@Porridgeoat

What we need is month long heavy snow with schools closed and almost inaccessible supermarkets
That's totally what we need. People dying because they can't afford to heat their homes and shortages of food. Bring it on!

Do you know that we had 50,000 EXCESS winter deaths in 2018? Flu and fuel poverty were big contributors.

This was not happening, at least not in primary schools.
@EssentialHummus if what you read on here is anything then it is about inconvenience “can I go in to a lower tier to do the things I can’t do in my tier?” “We HAD to get together for Christmas” “am I allowed my friend over to babysit” etc etc! Whether you trust the government or not you cannot exactly complain about Cummings breaking the rules (ie barnard castle) if you are doing the same!!
This is precisely how Tier 2 areas have just become Tier 4 areas with rapidly rising numbers. Well done everybody. Way to go to make everything worse.

And why the tiers aren't enough and another national lockdown is probably only days away.
