Very concerning

Depends what they weighed to start with to some extent. I lost 2 in less than 2 months but I was very overweight and in that case initial bit often does get lost relatively fast. It took almost as long again to lose another half stone after that

hamstersarse · 26/12/2020 22:59

It depends how they / you do it and how big they / you are to start with

There are perfectly healthy ways to lose 3 stones in a couple of months

Merryoldgoat · 26/12/2020 22:59

In what sense?

I lost that much once but I had something like 10 stone to lose.

So going from 20 - 17 not thar concerning.

Going from 10 - 7 then yes.

Also depends on how they’re doing so. Low carb, taken up running daily? Fine. Stopped eating and over exercising? Not fine.

DorisDaisyMay · 26/12/2020 23:00

Context is everything.

Going from 21 stone to 18 stone in two months - I would not have any issue with that or think it that unusual if the person is dieting.

Going from 10 stone to 7 stone in two months - very concerning. Without a serious medical condition I do not know how this would be possible.

I once lost 13lbs in a week in my first week on the Cambridge diet going from 10 stone to 9 stone 1 - that was because I retain a ridiculous amount of bloat and the fasting helped release it.

Howdidweenduphere · 26/12/2020 23:00

Depends how big they are? 22 stone starting weight not concerning and it can be done via keto etc
.someone weighing 10 stone..that's a different matter imo

MrsHarveySpecterV · 26/12/2020 23:01

@DorisDaisyMay did you keep the weight off?

Thisseatisnotavailable · 26/12/2020 23:01

Why? About 15 years ago I lost 4 stone in 3 months doing a VLCD, I went down to a size 8, healthy bmi.

Why do you think it's concerning?

Tellmelies65 · 26/12/2020 23:01

They were 15 stone which is overweight for their height.

OP posts:
steff13 · 26/12/2020 23:02

That's 5-ish lbs a week. If the person was quite overweight, I don't think that's concerning, in the beginning. I would expect the loss to slow down after a couple on months though. I'm very overweight, and when I've done WW it's not unusual for me to lose 7-8 lbs a week for the first few weeks. Then it levels out to 1-2.

OliviaPopeRules · 26/12/2020 23:03

Unless they are very tall I wouldn't think that is concerning, their healthy weight could easily be between 7.5 and 9-10 stone depending on height.

Merryoldgoat · 26/12/2020 23:04

What’s your part in this OP? 15 to 12 stone is quite a drop in 3 months.

What is concerning you? How do you know the exact figures?

Nohomemadecandles · 26/12/2020 23:04

No

thebakeoffwasntasgoodthisyear · 26/12/2020 23:05

Were you as concerned when they were fat?

I was previously very overweight and nobody batted an eyelid. When I lost 5 stone however, it seemed everyone was concerned, I was losing too much, would look gaunt etc etc. (I went from 17 to 12 stone so wasn’t exactly skeletal!)

Nohomemadecandles · 26/12/2020 23:05

Not concerning I mean

Tellmelies65 · 26/12/2020 23:06

A friend I’m worried she’s getting too obsessed with her diet. She’s been overweight for many years and I’ve supported her but think that’s quite a bit of weight to lose so rapidly.

OP posts:
DorisDaisyMay · 26/12/2020 23:06

@MrsHarveySpencer - ish
I am 9 stone right now but I want to be 8 stone. So in that sense - today I am the same weight I was back then.

Did I keep it off from doing the Cambridge diet - no- the best diet I have found for keeping it off is low carb.

tttigress · 26/12/2020 23:07

More details. If it wasn't deliberate I would say they have serious health issues.

If it was deliberate they must have half starved themselves to death. Think they might struggle to keep it off, but if they do, I would be mightly impressed.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 26/12/2020 23:07

It's VERY concerning if they're not trying.

It's not at all concerning if they're trying.

DorisDaisyMay · 26/12/2020 23:09

Well, to have the sort of success that she is having there does need to be a level of discipline that can look like obsession from the outside. It sounds like she has done really well, and I wouldn't find that weight loss from 15 to 12 stone concerning.

She could potentially lose another two - three stone to be at a healthy weight.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 26/12/2020 23:10

These threads asking questions with no essential information are just bloody irritating.

Kinneddar · 26/12/2020 23:11

If she's been following a VLCD like Cambridge etc its perfectly reasonable. If she's just starving herself it's not.

A full OP with all the details would have been more helpful than all the dribs and drabs

NameChange84 · 26/12/2020 23:11

If they are dieting and were obese (which they were at 15 stone), no it’s pretty normal. I’ve seen obese people lose that in the same time frame on slimming world. Keto and the Fast800 can cause rapid weight loss. I wouldn’t be concerned at all. By now the health benefits will be immense. She’s slashed her risk of many illness. Think of the fact she’s not got an extra 42lbs straining her heart. If she can’t STOP losing then that is a concern but right now, I’d just be supportive and happy for her.

MrsHarveySpecterV · 26/12/2020 23:12

@DorisDaisyMay thank you

Quite.
TheRuleofStix · 26/12/2020 23:13

Are you slim OP? In which case leave her alone. I had a similar experience as another PP - lost loads of weight and everyone was fussing. I think they just preferred me to be their fat friend. Women have a fucked up relationship with fat friends Hmm.
