Wow I'm severely obese and would love to lose 3 stone....

Everything I've read suggetss its better to lose gradually or you risk putting it all back on. But id settle for any weight loss at the moment!

Trickyboy · 26/12/2020 23:20

I lost 5stone in 4 months. But I had a gastric sleeve. Lots of people have weight loss surgery without telling anyone .. because idiots who know no better like to judge.

Best thing I ever did . .. (and i would shout it from the roof tops)

Read Dr Michael Moseley’s books. They are life changing.
DorisDaisyMay · 26/12/2020 23:25

RememberSelfCompassion - I don't know about that. Michael Mosely is quite a respectable authority on weight loss and he advocates for 5:2 and the Fast800.

It's not just about getting the weight off but keeping it off and I think that slower weight loss is connected to lasting changes in lifestyle.

My personal experience is that faster weight loss is more motivating.

Things like the Cambridge diet have plans to help lose weight but also to re-introduce food, until you eat in a sustainable way.

The best diet is always one you can stick to.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 26/12/2020 23:33

It depends. I'm 5 ft 9 and weighted 14 stone. I did atkins for 3 weeks and lost 14lbs. So it isn't that drastic.

If someone is 15 stone and starts eating healthy, exercising etc then 3 stone in 2 months isn't exactly unimaginable.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 26/12/2020 23:33

*weighed

NewspaperTaxis · 26/12/2020 23:34

The words 'diet' and 'lose weight' can be a bit triggering, I mean just mentioning them and the body goes into conflict, like it senses a struggle ahead, and doesn't want to be got rid of. 'Lose' is a negative word, better think of 'gaining' fitness.

Also three stone off and the fat cells will still be inefficient and be eager to seize on any bit of fat to put the weight back on.

PurpleDaisies · 26/12/2020 23:36

15stone to 12stone is most likely fine if they’ve done it sensibly.
10stone to 7stone not so much.

EggnogAndAMincepie · 26/12/2020 23:59

Don't know about losing 3 stone in 2 months. I could probably gain 3 stone in 2 months though. If her diet is done properly and as you say she was big to start with then losing weight quickly in the beginning is pretty normal. Someone I did SlimmingWorld with lost around that amount in that time. She certainly wasn't starving herself in order to lose it

LouHotel · 27/12/2020 00:05

Are you sure it's two months? People tend to embellish length of time and you can lose a stone before people even notice.

I know someone starting from a similar weight on milkshakes and it's a stone a month and that heavily restrictive.

Tellmelies65 · 27/12/2020 21:24

Yes it definitely was three stone in two months I’ve looked at the messages.

Could she have had barriatric surgery? That weight loss speed is common

TeeniefaeTroon · 27/12/2020 21:27

I've done that before, hoping to do the same from January. I am very heavy though. I don't starve myself, just exercise more and eat healthier meals.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 27/12/2020 21:27

As long as you keep your beak out you can think what you like
I had a colleague who lost 10 St in a year. Went from 20st to 10st in 52 weeks. She did slimming world and exercised. She found her motivation and did it.

DiesalFive · 27/12/2020 21:30

Sounds fine to me as she was overweight, good on her for a health kick.

Almostslimjim · 27/12/2020 21:31

Not concerning at that weight unless your friend is 6ft. The first few weeks months of a new diet sees the fastest weight loss, the next few months will slow down.

If she's still 12+ stone that's almost certainly still overweight.

I really wouldn't worry and would congratulate and support her.

cherrypie790 · 27/12/2020 21:33

No that's a dramatic loss, and not sensible. I'd be quietly worried too.

My cousins wife did lighter life when it was really in a few years ago. She lost 8 stone in 6 months......... and put the whole lot back on within 6 more months with a few more for luck. She says it's ruined her health (had gall bladder and liver problems as a result) and she hugely regrets ever doing it.

MistleTOEboughski · 27/12/2020 21:35

Being very overweight is dangerous for your health so the risk of losing weight fast is balanced by the danger of remaining overweight. I would say that people often regain weight after any diet but if the diet is very extreme then it is even more likely.

Ruddyfedup · 27/12/2020 21:39

I was 15st and dropped 4.5st in 5months, i stalled a bit in the middle with going on holiday and took me a week or 2 after to get going again so i probably would of done it faster. My hair is falling out as a result of loosing too much, too quickly. On top of post partum loss, my lovely thick hair, is now a vile rats tail, which makes me self conscious and rather sad

Arthersleep · 27/12/2020 22:03

I've lost 2 stone in 10 weeks before, just by eating sensibly and cutting down on fat, sugar and wheat. It all depends upon their starting weight.

Happymum12345 · 27/12/2020 22:04

It’s much better to lose weight quickly than to be overweight. I would get behind your friend with support if you can.

Ponoka7 · 27/12/2020 22:11

I'd tried diets for years. I decided to do Exante, but have around 1000 calories a day. This is approved by the NHS. I started at 15 stone and lost a stone a month. If I had have done the 800 plan, I could have lost three stone instead of two. People on the FB group are losing that.

Not all of us can do the 2 lb a week loss diets. We won't stick to them and it's just as easy to put it back on as with any plan.

Exante very quickly turned my blood results around and reset my appetite. It changed my relationship with Carbs.

Considering Covid is dangerous for the obese, I'd say myob. She's gone for quick results. She'll now be at a comfy weight for exercise.

cantdothisnow1 · 27/12/2020 22:11

After my first pregnancy i lost 3 stone in about 12 weeks. I was really sick with my first and had to watch my eating (gall stones) and that kick started healthy eating habits and I was breastfeeding.

I looked fantastic but had been really sick.

Put weight on again in second pregnancy and have totally failed to lose it no matter how hard I've tried.

PurpleFlower1983 · 27/12/2020 22:13

I’ve done that before when I was a similar weight to that. I kept it off for a good few years too.

Vates · 27/12/2020 22:17

If clinically overweight or obese, then no. Somebody already in a healthy weight range to start with then it would be both concerning and dangerous. There has been literature (think the diabetes reversal diet, lose a stone in month through healthy eating, etc) that has shown that losing this weight is actually beneficial if they can keep it off long term. I am morbidly obese and I lost about 18lbs in my first month of eating right and cutting out the crap.
