His accent has to be fake, my wife has been in the uk for 6 years and her accent is almost english, how long has he been here?

That's like someone from Italy saying Sean Bean's accent is fake as they've seen Eastenders and they spoke nothing like him.

I really have to disagree with a these posters saying his accent is fake. My dad moved to England when he was 20 and lived here for the rest of his life (60+ years). He never got rid of his accent.

I think a lot depends on your social circle and how immersed you are. Eg my dad was hardly ever with English people. All his friends came from the same country as he did.

Nobody expects him to sound like Jeremy Paxman. His accent is exaggerated, like a comedy character in a 1970s sitcom.

It’s just one of the things that make him annoying though, so even if someone produced a statistically significant sample of Italian men who had lived in Britain for 25 years, and had worked with (and been in jail with) British people throughout that time and still spoke like Gino D’Acampo, I’d still find him irritating.

He heavily overdoes the Italian accent, really annoys me - I doubt he speak like that in real life.

I’m surprised by the prison sentence though - so how did he get ‘famous’ was it simply off the back of his cooking?

I know Gino's next door neighbour. The accent is put on. My dad is Colombian-Italian. Moved to the U.K. not that long before having me, and doesn't have any accent. It's embarrassing that he puts it on 🤣

Bookriddle, are you really saying that if you've lived in the UK for over 6 years, any accent you have must be fake?

PY DID forgive him but then his wife died and it all became raw again.. especially as there were recordings of her voice... irreplaceable.
Plus he looks like Dean Gaffney...

To me, the longer he lives in the UK, the more Italian he sounds. And as I said I don't buy all the faux not understanding that he's said something that 'accidentally' sounded rude.
