Silly but also controversial post warning lol...

Why do we come to this forum? Looking for justification for our s**y behaviour when deep down we know we AIBU? Because we lack friends in the real world? Because we want to remain anon? Or a mix of all of these?!

Speak for yourself, I think the rest of us just like to gain a wider perspective on genuine dilemmas.

Boredom! I'm a SAHM. Once I'm back in work (soon hopefully) I hope I won't need to use it as much for entertainment!

heseesyouwhenyouaresleeping · 26/12/2020 10:25

because even the DM gets boring and I need distraction when I am stuck at work, or on the way to work.

Your reasons make me think you take MN a bit too seriously, you know most of it is fake or an over-reaction don't you...

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 26/12/2020 10:30

It’s literally something to do. Interest in other peoples lives and experience.
Is agree sometimes people know they are out of line.
But it’s an Internet forum, that’s literally the point.
I don’t think having friends and posting on mumsnet are mutually exclusive.

stayathomer · 26/12/2020 10:37

I've posted here because if you tell someone in real life theyll know and judge the person involved, or give you the advice they feel obliged to. I reply here for support or to let people know there's alternatives or if everyone's being mean, to show there is positivity out there!!

SebastianTheCrab · 26/12/2020 12:25

For me it's basically short stories, which is all I have time to read in between requests for snacks, help with Lego etc

ButtWormHole · 26/12/2020 12:27

Just something to do, innit?

Splann · 26/12/2020 12:28

Because other people’s lives, fictional or not, make interesting reading. And I’ve worked from home for over a decade and miss random gossip.

OhBaublesBaubles · 26/12/2020 12:28

Because some people are not supportive in real life so sadly at times you get more support and better perspectives from strangers!!!

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 26/12/2020 12:29

Entertainment. Sometimes people post for bait.

This

I used to love reading novels and newspapers. Since having children I have neither the time or mental energy to concentrate on that. This forum gives me 100s of 2. minute stories that are easy to read and can be consumed in between the constant demands for attention. Plus I can throw my own opinion in there occasionally. You can’t do that with The Hobbit.

mineofuselessinformation · 26/12/2020 12:36

If you don't get it, you probably never will.
Perhaps this is not the place for you? 🤷🏻‍♀️

LadyOfTheCanyon · 26/12/2020 12:44

Because seeing what a clusterfuck other people's lives are genuinely makes me feel better about some of the terrible life choices I've made.

Harsh but probably true for a large percentage of readers. Schadenfreude innit.

LindaEllen · 26/12/2020 12:58

Because it helps me get perspective on things sometimes. Sometimes you need a forum full of other people voting 'YABU' for you to get out of your bubble and realise that you've made a mountain out of a molehill.

It also makes me feel less alone reading about other people's problems.

And I like to help other people when I can, too.

ScrapThatThen · 26/12/2020 13:03

I relate to the short stories thing.

Wingedharpy · 26/12/2020 13:06

For me, it's a bit like sitting in a cafe or on a bus, listening in to conversations among a group of loud (as in, you can hear everything) opinionated women.
You have the choice of either joining in, by posting, or just sitting listening and being entertained, by just reading.
Or, you can leave the cafe or bus by scrolling on by.

shinynewapple2020 · 26/12/2020 19:07

What do you mean 'what is the point of this page?'
What page ? Do you mean AIBU? Mumsnet? Something else ?

Onesailwait · 26/12/2020 19:16

It's a bit of light relief from real life I think. 90%of it is made up bullshit to get some attention
The other 10% is someone who's behaved like an absolute dick trying to get others on board to justify their behaviour

MrsHugsxx · 26/12/2020 19:18

It's a time filler in between the moments of looking after my kids. I take what I read on here with a pinch of salt though. I rarely start threads but the ones I have are light issues really, I wouldn't post for advice about serious family matters and things like that.

Cocomarine · 26/12/2020 19:20

Cheaper than buying TakeABreak, and you don’t need to put a bra on and go to the shop? 🤷🏻‍♀️
