Battery compartments!!!

AIBU to think that they don't ALL need fiddly little screws. Yes for stuff with button batteries and stuff for babies. But do we really need fiddly little screws to stop older kids and teenagers getting at AA batteries?

Was thinking this the other day when putting batteries into my new Ikea battery-operated candles.

They should be kept out of reach of toddlers anyway so I don’t really see the need for fiddly little screws.

I'm sure we never had all these fiddly screws on battery compartments when I was a kid.

Annoying, but essential to stop toddlers potentially swallowing batteries.

Did toddlers ever swallow AA batteries though? I’d be more worried about them pulling the ‘flames’ off the candles and choking on those. We can’t make absolutely everything childproof.

Yes, and sometimes it's strange what does get childproofed and what doesn't.

I couldn’t agree more vetiver. The amount of time it’s taken to get rid of blind cords is absolutely criminal.

I was thinking the same thing about battery compartments today! I have a small screwdriver for just this reason that lives in a particular place so I can't ever lose it but it still annoys me.

I believe it’s a safety things do batteries don’t fall out said items and little kids can pick them up. Even if they aren’t tiny like cell batteries still could pose a risk but yes annoying. I haven’t got little children so I don’t bother putting the screws back in tbh.
