DH is arsing up building a dolls house

Actually quite fecked off. Like a lot of women I bought and wrapped every Christmas toy. There is a dolls house which had to be built last minute as it was too big to hide. I wanted to start last night, H said leave it. Tonight he is trying to build it, buggering it up and getting in a mood.

Problem is he is shit at flat packs. I’m pretty decent and can throw together an IKEA chest of drawers in no time. It is killing me watching him and him refusing help. I had to walk away.

He also keeps huffing about how exhausted he is. But he was in bed before me last night and slept in till 10.30. I had already been up and done a 90 min round trip to the hospital to drop stuff off for a sick parent. I have cooked, baked wrapped, run about. Meanwhile he watched a Christmas movie and went for a long walk.

AIBU to be fecking furious and just want him to bugger off to bed and leave me to it? It would take half the time and I wouldn’t have to feel the guilt trip from him.

Sorry, just venting!

Is it a kidkraft one? Because ours took 2 hours this evening and would have been impossible without 2 people.

HeIsYourBrother · 24/12/2020 23:35

Go to bed and leave him to it.. No need to feel guilty. Sounds like you've pulled your weight.

TokenGinger · 24/12/2020 23:36

YANBU. Tell him to piss off to bed. Thankfully, DP has been out both times I've built toys in the last two days and I've managed them absolutely fine, and I know he'd have been exactly like your DH!

whatisheupto · 24/12/2020 23:39

Fucking infuriating. He's even wound me up just reading it!

Caplin · 24/12/2020 23:41

Yeah, kidkraft. Bastard thing!

He will no doubt claim glory tomorrow and collect all wrapping paper like a martyr 🙄

I say yabu because I too would be flustered by a flatpack but get the fact he wants to do it on his own. And he is now in a no win situation if he excepts help then it,s yet one more thing you have had to do and that in itself may make him feel bad. If he doesn,t except help you get frustrated because he hasn,t asked for help. And if he does build it then he can claim glory for it can,t he. (especially if he struggled.)

Caplin · 24/12/2020 23:53

I should say he generally pretty fab, but flat pack turns him into an angry old man 😂

Sooo much sighing going on! I cleaned the kitchen but he is still building!!

It’s coming up to 4am here and I’m still trying to finish off a custom flat pack kitchen toy we ordered. There is even a toy sourdough starter - peak 2020. I hope he buggers off so you can get more sleep than I have. Elves need to unionise.

Buzzthedragon · 25/12/2020 00:10

collect all wrapping paper like a martyr 🙄
Lol
So relatable Grin

MamaPip · 25/12/2020 00:14

We had a kid Kraft kitchen here last year ! It took 4 hours for him to make it and then another 30 mins for me to take the stuff off he put on upside down and fix it !! I wouldn’t mind we had the room to hide it he just refused to do it until last minute super annoying 🙄

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 25/12/2020 00:15

Our Kidcraft one took until 3am and DH is an absolute whizz at stuff like that.

God speed OP Grin

Caplin · 25/12/2020 00:26

It’s done! He ended up taking it apart and starting again....twice!

He is now sitting in stubborn silence whilst he recovers from the trauma, making sure I can see and feel his inner frustration.

I am drinking Prosecco.

Wow, that is amazing!!!! I thought the wok and pasta strainer we had in ours was pretty middle class!

My friend's husband forced together an expensive fisher-price like garage a few years ago. It was the worst construction ever. The cars wouldn't go down the ramp/in and out of the lift as nothing lined up. It wouldn't sit flat as the base was distorted. It wasn't designed to be be dissembled once it was put together.

I went over and took it apart with great difficulty and then put it together properly. I have no idea how he cold have got it so wrong.

Some people just genuinely can't do them. My ex spent an hour on a drawer and it came back to me in pieces. He just could not do it. I can't deal with badly put together furniture.
WankPuffins · 25/12/2020 04:02

We had a bastard kiddicraft one to make too.

Only way we did it was for me and Dd to go up to my room at 6pm for a movie night.Dh stayed downstairs "tidying" aka, spending 4 hours trying to build the bloody thing.

Elderflower14 · 25/12/2020 04:10

One year we got ds2 an ELC tractor.. Late DH decided to put it together at 8pm on Christmas Eve!!! 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔
The instructions were in French for some reason!
I opened the dining room door to ask how he was getting on..
"Do you want to do it???"
"Errrr noooo!"
"Well bugger off then!"
He finished at 11pm!!!🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

OMG. I now realised I have missed a trick. I could have made sourdough starters as Christmas presents! An old jam jar, some flour and water and a fancy bow on top. They would have been perfect 2020 gifts.

Hi Op
I get you understand your frusteration !
Men eh.😕😁
As long as he is a good man
All that matters

Stepintochristmas2020 · 25/12/2020 05:17

Haha @Elderflower14 we got a ride on jeep for 18 month old. The instructions had been badly translated from another language to English and didnt cover half of the pieces. There were so many warnings in the manual that I didnt charge it last night as I'm afraid it would set the house on fire!

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 25/12/2020 05:36

I did a kiddiecraft dolls house lst night! Around 2 hours. One small part ha to be taken apart and put together again properly. (Preens)
