When people starting pointing out grey hairs on Me.

OP posts:
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/12/2020 22:39

When I started preferring staying in to going out. I was probably only about 30 though!

When the perfect end to an evening was going to bed with a cup of tea and a good book. And in winter, an electric blanket. Bliss!

More lately, telling Gdcs that my knees aren’t up to kneeling on the floor to do that jigsaw - we’ll have to do it at the table.

polkadotpixie · 24/12/2020 22:40

I'd say this year, I'm 36

I've always looked young for my age and could have easily passed for 25 when I was 34....then I had DS and he has genuinely aged me 10 years in the last 2 😩

LividLover · 24/12/2020 22:40

A Spanish waiter called me Senora and not Senorita.

Xmas Angry
stanski · 24/12/2020 22:41

34

@BrimfulOfBaba

When I talked about my favourite bands growing up to my Gen Z cousin, and mentioned Destiny's Child. She was SHOCKED that Beyoncé had been in a girl band.
When I realised I've got no idea who destiny's child were before reading this 🙄

When I was promoted and suddenly realised I was in charge - still feel like the young girl who has just started work. Also, about the same time realised I pay more in tax and national insurance than I earned when I first started working

When I realised DH and I often have long and detailed conversations about the most boring if things - for example todays delights include drains and different types of tea.

emmaluggs · 24/12/2020 22:43

This year at 34, when a personal trainer I trained with asked me what kind of music I listened too, you know when I used to go out 😩

ThreeLadsPointingAtAStar · 24/12/2020 22:44

Another landmark moment for me was when I started using a handbag

Until I was about 30 I would leave the house with a packet of cigarettes, lighter and a five pound note.

Now I carry a fully stocked bag with me at all times.

TheSandman · 24/12/2020 22:46

The day I read in a paper that a band that had rocked my teenage years when they were new, and cutting edge, and ripping up the rule book had been together for 25 years....

Honeyroar · 24/12/2020 22:46

I was cabin crew. When I felt like getting off the plane because the pilot looked about 13.

grafittiartist · 24/12/2020 22:47

Yep- faffing with glasses for me.
Swapping them over- taking them on and off to read properly.
All makes me feel old!

Blueemeraldagain · 24/12/2020 22:48

When I started teaching (7 years ago aged 26) I used to genuinely find most of the YouTube videos my students would show me funny. The videos they show me now are so fucking stupid and often quite mean. Makes me feel real old!

@BrimfulOfBaba
I also had a student (very quiet and serious 15 year old boy) about 5 years ago wait back to speak to me after class and asked me very seriously if Beyoncé used to be in a girl band. We were a bit late for lunch due to watching a couple of music videos.

MuthaFunka61 · 24/12/2020 22:49

This past couple of months.

I'm 60 in a week or so and as middle age would mean I'm expecting to live until 120+ I'm now definitely old.

I plan to go out in style

Tomcullenisahero · 24/12/2020 22:51

When my kids can use technology better than me and get frustrated when I press a wrong button. It's reminiscent of me getting pissed off with my mum for selecting SP not LP when recording stuff on the TV onto video tapes.
Also my post makes me feel old as some of you will have no idea what I'm in about (I've just turned 40 but am 25 in my head)

TableNiner · 24/12/2020 22:51

When people started calling me Madam

SantasAnus · 24/12/2020 22:52

When new music started sounding shit and I caught myself saying 'this is what they call music nowadays'

When I was flicking through the channels and watched Mock The Week and the comedians looked about 12 and were about as funny as cancer and I thought 'this is what passes for comedy nowadays'

So basically, whenever I think 'nowadays', I feel old AF

89redballoons · 24/12/2020 22:57

When a younger relative started university a few years ago and went to a "90s themed" party in her freshers' week. 90s themed! How can you have a 90s theme? Isn't that just, like, now? Blush

SparkyTheCat · 24/12/2020 22:59

When my undergrad students held a 90s revival night 😟

SparkyTheCat · 24/12/2020 22:59

@89redballoons you too!

OllyBJolly · 24/12/2020 23:00

Just recently. If I sit too long, I’m really stiff when I get up. I have visible wrinkles. If I’m in pain I can no longer shrug it off. I get tired more quickly. Increasingly intolerant - sound like my late dad these days!

59 next month.

Buccanarab · 24/12/2020 23:01

When people literally half my age joined my footy team. I'm not ready to be an oldy yet Shock

Aroaringfire · 24/12/2020 23:02

When, after a bit of a break from wearing make up, I went to do my usual winged eyeliner... and realised I couldn't because I had a big crease where the wing was meant to go! I was only in my early thirties and looked quite young for my age generally but the hooded eyelids caught up on me!

FuckOffBorisYouTwat · 24/12/2020 23:05

When reading this thread and people in their 30s think they are older...

pinkhousesarebest · 24/12/2020 23:05

When I was queuing at an airport in France and a very young child, being carried by her father, began to say «bonsoir mademoiselle» but hastily amended it to Madame. Everyone laughed but a knife went through my heart Wink

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 24/12/2020 23:05

Recently, the resurgence of nineties fashion has had me crowing ooh I remember that the first time, couldn't wear it again. Game over.
