Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong place. I gave my DD a bath today, she's 11 months and some water and maybe shampoo got into her eye. She cried in pain. Her eye was red after the bath for a while and then seemed to be OK. Now it's watery, a tiny bit red and producing whiteish gunk. I wiped it with coffin wool dipped in camomile tea. What else can I do to prevent it getting worse or shall I call GP tomorrow and ask for antibiotics straight away ?

Just keep it clean and it'll be fine, it might be slightly irritated but very unlikely to be infected (therefore needing antibiotics) from shampoo. If you're breastfeeding you can use a little of your milk in her eye- will call the irritation and on the off chance there is an infection it'll help clear that too

Are you breastfeeding by any chance? If so you can express some and squirt in her eye

As above, keep it clean(the cool camomile tea is lovely and soothing) and just keep an eye on it but I imagine it will be fine.

If you have thyme sprigs or dried, add a sprig or teasp on boiling water, leave till yellow/ green, cool, pipette or dribble in eye.
Natural antiseptic, cheap too and works

Thank you. I hope it doesn't get worse ! These things always really escalate with her. She has eczema and ended up in hospital for it, so I always panic very quickly. I'll keep it clean with the camomile a few times a day. Bless her. I just don't know how to avoid getting water / shampoo in her eye as she just will not tilt her head back even a little when I try to rinse her hair. I'm surprised shampoo hasn't got into her eye sooner.. Sad

Are you not able to buy a shield?
Always use bio d or Ecover washing up liquid as shampoo very gentle
