ASOS delivery to my house but not in my name

WhatKatyDidNxt · 24/12/2020 13:02

There was a knock at the door earlier, when l answer it the delivery woman ask my name and l say it. She gives me a parcel and says is for me. I open it, don’t recognise any of the stuff and then look at the label which has someone else’s name on it 🤷‍♀️. My fiancé has been dropping little hints all week about a surprise delivery so l had assumed it was this.

I haven’t ordered anything from ASOS for years and never to this address. None of it is my size or length. Fiancé rang me on his lunch from work, he knows nothing about it.

Is this dodgy? Feels odd as we have lived here 4 years, it’s not the previous owners name either. My neighbour has lived here for 10+ years and doesn’t know the persons name. The whole address is correct (it’s not a popular address and no similar ones nearby) and correct full postcode

Well it ain't yours maybe ask on Facebook? Message Asos? I'd be fucked off if it was my Xmas gifts that went missing. My ASOS order was dumped on my neighbours doorstep this morning by dpd for what reason I don't know. But when someone makes a first order off asks etc you put postcode in and you click on the list of addresses could have been a mis click. Wouldn't say it's dodgy.

Maves · 24/12/2020 13:17

And also If you knew you weren't expecting an Asos order why didn't you check the label? Even if you thought it was a suprise from your partner you shouldn't have opened it? That's strange.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 24/12/2020 13:17

Not dodgy probably someone has just clicked the wrong address when ordering it.
Just contact them

Maves · 24/12/2020 13:18

What Katy did next was.....find the rightful owner (cos the clothes didn't fit) 🤪

WhatKatyDidNxt · 24/12/2020 13:25

@Maves l have no idea about what the surprise is and he’s a great present buyer. So a delivery from ASOS may have been from him. I’m busy working from home so just wanted a quick nosey before l went back to it. This isn’t a confession I’ve nicked someone’s clothes or Christmas presents Confused. This isn’t a convoluted way to will people to tell me to keep them. They don’t fit me anyway

I’m working until 8pm and have other stuff to do. Being realistic l won’t be spending much time tracking down the rightful owner until Boxing Day at the earliest.

@SpiderinaWingMirror l meant dodgy in the sense they got them on credit at this address. The delivery people are terrible for leaving them on the step here

FindHungrySamurai · 24/12/2020 13:28

If you’re ordering on the phone then you’ll often enter your postcode first and then select your address from a drop down list. Really really easy to accidentally click the wrong house.

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 24/12/2020 13:55

It would cost you nothing at all to put the name on a local Facebook group and ask if anyone knows of them. We had similar last week and reunited the (very grareful) person with their parcel within 30 minutes.

NuniaBeeswax · 24/12/2020 13:57

Ffs just send asos an email or something and let them know?

MondeoFan · 24/12/2020 13:59

I'd def ask on local Facebook group. You don't have to tell them the contents just say it's a ASOS parcel

WhatKatyDidNxt · 24/12/2020 14:00

@MissBaskinIfYoureNasty l have put a message on the most local Facebook group. Hopefully her or someone she knows will see it

OP posts:
WhatKatyDidNxt · 24/12/2020 14:01

@NuniaBeeswax not sure of the need for ffs

OP posts:
WhatKatyDidNxt · 24/12/2020 14:01

@MondeoFan l haven’t mentioned the contents. That way the genuine owner can tell me roughly what it contains

OP posts:
WhatKatyDidNxt · 24/12/2020 14:03

@NuniaBeeswax ahh l see. Just done a quick google on your username, you’re usually rude and abrupt

Chanjer · 24/12/2020 14:03

For low value stuff I wouldn't give it too much thought. Contact ASOS and arrange for a collection. It's 99 times of a 100 a labelling mistake

If anything of great value ever turns up then proceed with caution

vanillandhoney · 24/12/2020 14:05

Why would it be dodgy?

Credit scores are generally linked to names, not addresses. Someone probably just put in "Mumsnet road" instead of Avenue, for example, or number 17 instead of 57. It happens all the time.

user1471541711 · 24/12/2020 14:06

Just return it to ASOS. No need for the drama

PeaceLoveAndCandy · 24/12/2020 14:09

Surely if you receive a parcel you're not expecting, the first thing you do is look at the label... Hmm

WhatKatyDidNxt · 24/12/2020 14:09

@user1471541711 until l went on their website l didn’t realise returns are free and obviously lm not paying to return it if the owner doesn’t surface. I wouldn’t describe it as drama per se

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 24/12/2020 14:32

Someone probably clicked wrong on the drop down address choices, I think once I put 355 instead of 335 type thing. I'd email or call asos to tell them

AngusThermopyle · 24/12/2020 14:43

This happened to me last year!
It was a drop down box error. Asos contacted the real customer and she came and collected it.

Maves · 24/12/2020 14:52

Bit selfish you're waiting till Boxing Day....takes 2 mins to email. Again though why didn't you read the label? And what I meant about you opening your partners "possible" surprise it was meant to be a surprise so why open it? I call bullshit about you not checking the label. Asos parcels are always plastered with the Asos name as well so you knew it wasn't for you. I

tttigress · 24/12/2020 15:37

I would just send it back to asks, not advertise on Facebook group, this sort of thing can be quite a pain, I have done neighbors a favour going parcels in, and then had to chase them up to take the parcel!

WhatKatyDidNxt · 24/12/2020 16:42

@Maves well, that’s just me as lm a selfish arsehole. Volunteering to work until Christmas Eve at 8pm so other people can be off. Then trying to do the last minute things most people have had all day to do. I would ask my equally selfish fiancé to assist but he’s not home from work until 9pm.

Back in the real world l have been busy and whether l send them an email right this second or tomorrow or day after. ASOS said they have an email backlog.

I’m doing a 11 hour day for work on Christmas Eve and l got interrupted by an unforeseen thing, then opened a parcel delivered to my address. That the delivery person said is for me. Shoot me now! Hmm I will get to it when l can, lm not the one who put the wrong address on it or labelled it wrong. If l have time to do it great, if not it can wait. Whether l opened it or not it’s at the wrong oks e

@tttigress what’s that phrase: no good turn, goes unpunished!
