ASOS delivery to my house but not in my name

WhatKatyDidNxt · 24/12/2020 13:02

There was a knock at the door earlier, when l answer it the delivery woman ask my name and l say it. She gives me a parcel and says is for me. I open it, don’t recognise any of the stuff and then look at the label which has someone else’s name on it 🤷‍♀️. My fiancé has been dropping little hints all week about a surprise delivery so l had assumed it was this.

I haven’t ordered anything from ASOS for years and never to this address. None of it is my size or length. Fiancé rang me on his lunch from work, he knows nothing about it.

Is this dodgy? Feels odd as we have lived here 4 years, it’s not the previous owners name either. My neighbour has lived here for 10+ years and doesn’t know the persons name. The whole address is correct (it’s not a popular address and no similar ones nearby) and correct full postcode

Why would it be dodgy? Just seems like a mistake to me

Legally the items are not yours so you can’t keep them or resell/dispose of them. I would DM ASOS and get them to collect them at their expense. Ie just leave the box on your doorstep/in your porch if you won’t be in .

WhatKatyDidNxt · 24/12/2020 16:47

@PeaceLoveAndCandy fiancé had mentioned a surprise. Before that l had mentioned to him about something a co-worker got from ASOS that l like

OP posts:
Vitaminsss · 24/12/2020 16:48

obviously lm not paying to return it

You don’t have to though. ASOS has to pay for postage or for the collection of their stuff.

Sparklesocks · 24/12/2020 16:52

If it’s not your fiancé’s name then it probably was an address error, as others have said it’s easy to select the wrong number from a drop down menu. I recently ordered my friend a gift from a baby boutique and accidentally selected her neighbour’s number and not hers, so she had to go and get it - oops!

You can drop ASOS an email here www.asos.com/customer-care/get-in-touch/ or they’re quite active on twitter.

And as others have said, credit is attached to individuals rather than address - so even if someone were doing a scam using your address (which seems unlikely as they can’t get anything they’ve ordered) then it wouldn’t impact yours or your partner’s.

WhatKatyDidNxt · 24/12/2020 16:53

@Vitaminsss it’s years since l last ordered from them, so l didn’t know it was free to return

For the people giving constructive advice, rather than the ones inferring lm deliberately thieving clothes that don’t fit or to my taste. Then there is response to the Facebook group post as yet

OP posts:
WhatKatyDidNxt · 24/12/2020 16:56

@Sparklesocks thanks for the info -l didn’t realise that about credit

elsaesmeralda · 24/12/2020 16:56

Yeah just return for free, you just request a qr code and take it to the post office or wherever you choose in the return portal. Bet someone is gutted if it's an Xmas outfit

nzeire · 24/12/2020 16:57

I couldn’t leave that till Boxing Day, no matter what i was doing :)

WhatKatyDidNxt · 24/12/2020 17:02

@nzeire aaah well, it would be boring if we were all the same. I doubt the ASOS fairy is going to swoop in before midnight Smile

HopeAndDriftWood · 24/12/2020 17:07

dodgy in the sense they got them on credit at this address

ASOS don’t offer credit, I don’t think. You can use PayPal with them; who do, but they wouldn’t have been able to take it out in your name...

So you’ve just got an order that’s been badly delivered. Probably from the address list selection; rather than anything weird, but who knows. ASOS will collect them for free, and they’ll know the account that ordered them, so they can contact the buyer and get them to change the delivery address.

No big stress. Bit rubbish for whomever expected them, but they may well have already contacted ASOS if they got a delivered message and didn’t have the goods, and if not, they’re unlikely to get them before Christmas whatever happens now.

"ahh l see. Just done a quick google on your username, you’re usually rude and abrupt"

Ask stupid questions, get stupid answers. Though I'm flattered you found time in your busy schedule to look up my posting history. Maybe if you find another spare 30 seconds you can ask your fiance if this package is from him and if not send an email to asos telling that you've had a parcel delivered to you by mistake. 🙄

StillCoughingandLaughing · 24/12/2020 17:21

Why would it be dodgy?

Someone hacked into my email once and (incorrectly) guessed at my surname, got into my PayPal account and had goods sent to my address. After a long fight, I got the money back - but only one of three parcels arrived at my address. Someone using my address (and money!) obviously managed to intercept the other parcels - and of course, by using a real address, there was less chance of being caught out.

Heyahun · 24/12/2020 17:29

Jeez people on here are ridiculous 😂 why should you go out of your way to find the owner ? It’s not your bloody fault!

Tbh I’d be putting it back in the bag leaving it in the hall and forgetting about it for now! It’s Christmas Eve and not your problem or your mistake!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 24/12/2020 17:31

I’d love to know what people think will happen if OP sends an email to ASOS HQ at 5pm on Christmas Eve. I can just hear the klaxons sounding and helicopters being dispatched to get that parcel to Mrs Margaret Mustardpot of Newton-le-Willows now, now, NOW!!!

Vitaminsss · 24/12/2020 17:32
@Vitaminsss it’s years since l last ordered from them, so l didn’t know it was free to return
It’s not that it’s free to return, it’s that ASOS incorrectly sent you the items and the items are still their property, not yours. So legally you can’t be inconvenienced (whether that’s a financial loss or time spent) to reunite the parcel to ASOS, they have to pay for the postage/collection out of their own pocket at a time convenient for you.

Vitaminsss · 24/12/2020 17:39

So to clarify, you’re not returning it under their usual returns policy but it’s something their customer services would advise on. So if their website states returns aren’t free, you can safely ignore that.

starfishmummy · 24/12/2020 17:40

Similar happened to us - although it actually had my name on. A smallish company I had bought from previously but hadn't used for a while so I rang them. Turned out it was someone in our street and the comoany had made a drol down nox error and got me! Totally daft to send it back, so I said they could tell the "owner" to come round and get it.

Obviously nothing is going to happen right this second but my immediate reaction to a mystery parcel not addressed to me turning up at my door wouldn't be to post on MN wondering about what I should do about it or wondering if it's somehow a credit scam 🙄 it takes a minute to send an email. What happens after that is up to asos 🤷‍♀️

Well I don’t think anyone thinks that? But at least OP can put the order aside and set the wheels in motion for getting it sorted. Nobody is expecting anything to get quickly done and dusted at Christmas, but typing an email takes a few minutes and then customer services can pick it up when they’re back.
StillCoughingandLaughing · 24/12/2020 18:03

Well quite a few of the posts seemed to suggest that the OP was being terrible selfish in not leaping to action when it could be someone’s Christmas present.

missbipolar · 24/12/2020 18:05

In the time it's taken you to write this post, search someone, read enough of their comments to decide they're always rude, read comments on your posts and write replys you could have already dealt with issue and saved yourself time 🤷😂

GlowingOrb · 24/12/2020 18:09

I had something similar once. I was able to track down the correct recipient with a combination of Facebook stalking and some emails. Turns out the giver had put in the wrong address. Correct recipient lived up the street from me so it was just the wrong house number.

NuniaBeeswax · 24/12/2020 18:25

"Well quite a few of the posts seemed to suggest that the OP was being terrible selfish in not leaping to action when it could be someone’s Christmas present."

Well when you put it like that, I do think it's kind of selfish to not take a minute out of your day (especially when you seem to have plenty to spare to make this thread, read replies, check people's posting history...) to send one bloody email letting asos know of their mistake. Fuck whoever will be wondering where their parcel is though right?

And yes, I KNOW they won't get it before Christmas but at least they MIGHT get it a little bit sooner than they might do if they have to wait for asos to investigate it themselves.

Rockpooler · 24/12/2020 18:27

My Facebook is full of right name wrong address posts. Post up their name on your local group - owners will be found soon I bet.
