Phrases you’d like to ban

YouBoughtMeAWall · 24/12/2020 10:15

I’ll start

Support bubble.

I’ll happily go the rest of my life never hearing this phrase. In fact even the word bubble has exceeded its usage quota for the entire rest of time.

What is yours?

I would like to ban the verb gifting.
"She gifted it to me". Nope, she gave it to you, you utter plum. And breathe...

YouBoughtMeAWall · 24/12/2020 10:20

I would like to ban the verb gifting.

Isolating 🤐

LuckyNumberThirteen · 24/12/2020 10:20

"Borrowed her"

Turtleturtle81 · 24/12/2020 10:23

Needs gone
Needs done

nosswith · 24/12/2020 10:24

Not phrases but individual overuse words.

Little
Big
Urgent
Literally

Isteamagoodham · 24/12/2020 10:26

I have always had an irrational hatred of the phrase 'I sat him/her down'. I'm like 'No, you didn't bend their legs into a sitting position and shove them onto the sofa, they sat down of their own accord!' I guess I'm a weirdo, but something about it immediately gets my hackles up.

The other phrase I hate is when people post Envy followed by saying 'not envy'. I get it's the 'envy face' but it's usually done when they're talking about something really grim and most people could work out that it's not envy. 'A dog just crapped all over my living room floor Envy not envy'. Well, obviously not...

...but that's just me with my little pet annoyances Smile

Isteamagoodham · 24/12/2020 10:27

Oh and when people say 'Can you action this?' instead of just 'Can you do this?' because they think it makes them sound more important...

helloxhristmas · 24/12/2020 10:28

In a minute

Key worker

TheVamoosh · 24/12/2020 10:29

"new normal"

Fuck that. We have vaccines now. I need to believe that this whole massive shitshow of government incompetence and depressing social isolation is temporary.

rosettesforjill · 24/12/2020 10:30

Social distancing

GeneHuntsMistress · 24/12/2020 10:30

“Because of COVID”

It’s sad, upsetting and irritating - especially so when used as a catch-all excuse for what is ordinarily called “poor service”.

YouBoughtMeAWall · 24/12/2020 10:34

I think we could ban all covid related phrases. They’re depressing as fuck. I’m happy to allow people to leaving lingering pauses in place of all covid related terms Grin

'bore off'
Makes no sense. Makes me feel unreasonably annoyed.
And putting dear on the end of sentences to be condescending "do fuck off dear" it just doesn't work, makes you sound like a twat not the person you are telling off.

unmarkedbythat · 24/12/2020 10:34

"Covid secure"

You can kid on all you want but asking us to wear masks and try to remain 2 metres apart does not make the workplace covid secure. We can limit the risks but secure implies they are eradicated which they are blatantly not.

Also "we will meet again"; this fucking year has just ruined that for me!

heseesyouwhenyouaresleeping · 24/12/2020 10:34

bad for my mental health

MrsExpo · 24/12/2020 10:35

The phrase "curated by" .... or "a curated collection of ..."

It's as if buying a gift item from somewhere that sells a "curated" collection of said items makes them that much more special. Really?

heseesyouwhenyouaresleeping · 24/12/2020 10:35

#bekind

when it has nothing to do with "being kind", just trying to shut up people with a different opinion

Carpathian2 · 24/12/2020 10:37

Not COVID-19 but, super. As in "super excited" "super fresh" 🙄

BLToutanowhere · 24/12/2020 10:38

Unprecedented.

ToffeePennie · 24/12/2020 10:45

“Would of, could of, should of”
It’s HAVE you absolute troglodytes!
It really gets on my nerves that one.
I would also like to ban the term “furlough”. It drives me round the bend. My husband is technically furloughed but has been “volun-told” to work for a sister company. So it’s actually not furlough at all, just his boss being cheap and getting all the work done for 60%.

winterinmadeira · 24/12/2020 10:46

Reach out.

Grrrr.

TornadoOfSouls · 24/12/2020 10:50

Excited for

‘Mental health’ when they mean ‘mental illness’

heseesyouwhenyouaresleeping · 24/12/2020 10:50

"Karen"

used as an insult.

YouBoughtMeAWall · 24/12/2020 10:51
