I think it’s time you went on strike.

The government clearly don’t give a toss about you, our kids & subsequently our families.

My daughter is so stressed about the school/college environment. Everywhere she’s being told that she can’t do this that and the other because people are dying. But she’s expected to go into college and have her normal classes with overcrowding and no effective mitigation.

Medical officer woman has clearly not been into a school. The teachers & students are dropping like flies.

Don't forget the magic Covid tape down the middle of the narrow corridors!

happystone · 23/12/2020 19:36

The testing in schools will not happen. Gavin chats shit.

Piggyinblankets · 23/12/2020 19:36

Oh we don't have that spaniel!! Xmas Envy

kowari · 23/12/2020 19:39

@ChloeDeckTheHalls

Our school have staggered breaks and have masks in corridors and good ventilation, I thought that was just standard though.

It’s interesting that you haven’t considered that some teachers might want to wear masks in their classrooms and not just the corridors. The DfE guidance in England still does not let teachers do this. (I won’t mention masks in classrooms for secondary students as well, as that’s usually a beacon for the UsForThem boys)

I didn't think masks protected the wearer, but it's not for me to consider, I don't write the guidance. My job is to provide for and make the best decisions for my child. If he is told to wear a mask in class then he will do so, not a problem.
happystone · 23/12/2020 19:40

And how could I forget the magic codv tape marking out 2 meters distance. Teachers don’t know how lucky they are having the magic codv dust and tape.

happystone · 23/12/2020 19:45

I don’t know how teachers do there job.I hope not all parents are like this is real life. Not giving a shit weather you are safe or not.as long as little Tobias can go to school and spread his load.

PoptartPoptart · 23/12/2020 19:45

Teachers and pupils (along with millions of others in Tier 4) are being told it’s not safe to meet up in a bubble with their family at Christmas. Yet 10 days later they are expected to be back, herded into cramped classrooms with no social distancing or PPE.
It’s a joke.

Unfortunately some parents are just like this is real life. We've had a few sent in whilst waiting for results, one of which turned out to be positive, and others sent in dosed up to hide their symptoms. Sad
ChloeDeckTheHalls · 23/12/2020 19:47

I didn't think masks protected the wearer,

There has actually been a lot of evidence stating the opposite, with specific masks. Even acknowledged by this government. And yet in new guidance released today, still they refuse to include it. Sadly.

Agoodbriskwalk · 23/12/2020 19:48

If there is a lockdown then all the parents who are up in arms but HAVEN'T actively campaigned for safer schools will only have themselves to blame.

And just to be clear - there will either be a shutdown of schools or a virus that runs rampant through the population. That's the only choice now because of the stage the government have allowed it to get to. There's no mitigation in schools at this level of infection. And that's because there was no mitigation in schools at a lower level of infection.

The solution to this certainly isn't the 48% effective lateral flow tests, or any tests that bring the children together in daily groupings.

GleamingBaubles · 23/12/2020 19:53

This is a populist government. They don't do anything unless they are heavily convinced that it is what the masses want.

So far they are convinced that the masses want schools as normal as possible - so fully open, full over crowded classrooms and no masks.

If you want schools to STAY open the government needs to be convinced to stump up some funding for the mitigations that work - FACE, SPACE.

They need to have the public clamouring for this.

It was only public outcry that got better PPE for care workers and HCPs.

This needs public outcry.

ChloeDeckTheHalls · 23/12/2020 19:54

Thanks for your support. Always lovely to hear.

happystone · 23/12/2020 19:55

AaronPurr. I’m so sorry to hear this. I think any person who sends a child in to school awaiting a test or masking symptoms needs to face a fixed penalty notice. This behaviour is gross no wonder we are in this problem

Valenciaoranges · 23/12/2020 19:58

As others have said, most teachers are in a union to protect themselves from allegations etc. School staff will not strike because, contrary to what some think, we do actually really care about our students.

PoptartPoptart · 23/12/2020 19:59

I think teaching might be the only profession that are denied the protection of wearing PPE.
Doctors, nurses, shop workers, bus drivers, office workers, and even the police can wear a mask. But teachers? Nope.
Also, secondary school children are required to wear a mask when on public transport and in shops. Yet in the classroom they are not allowed.
How is that right?
A teacher or pupil are not allowed in a shop without a mask because it is too dangerous. Yet anything goes in schools.
It’s disgraceful.
And everyone, yes EVERYONE, should care about this because ultimately the virus is spreading in schools which poses a risk not only to teachers and pupils but to their families, friends, and the public as a whole.

Tal45 · 23/12/2020 20:02

Lets face it the government care as much about teachers as they did about care homes. They have no problem sacrificing anyone. That was abundantly clear in their misunderstanding of ethical herd immunity at the beginning of all this and their desire to let it rip through the population regardless of death toll as long as the economy wasn't affected.
As much as it would be terrible for my lo who is in his GCSE years I would rather keep the teaching staff safe and reduce numbers in classes by only having the vulnerable and those where neither parent can work from home. The lessons can be recorded for the students at home.

Totally and if it is allowed too, what will be the next mutation? Very worrying indeed. Parents have been swallowing the govt. lies and covid had been raging out of control. Covid safe is a narrative that suits their lives and who can blame then to a certain extent as people need to work. What is unforgivable is the lack of campaigning to improve mitigations in schools. The virus just doesn't stop there. It is spread to families and beyond. Only now we are hearing about the numbers and cases and the true horror of covid in schools.
happystone · 23/12/2020 20:08

As the parents wehave to fight for our teachers and children to be safe at school. It’s obvious that this government don’t give a flying shit about teachers or staff.Teachers care for our children it’s about time we done the same for them

Fortherosesjoni70 · 23/12/2020 20:10

Lets face it, noone knows the effect of covid on children either long term.

ktp100 · 23/12/2020 20:10

It's about time the government face up to the fact that we will never get on top of Covid until schools close.

They are in no way Covid secure.

Well said and thank you :)
42isthemeaning · 23/12/2020 20:12

@Retiremental

OP Can you link to the death rates for teachers from Covid?
She'll find this difficult because no statistics are available - the government don't want you to know.

Most certainly not now. The mere fact they have allowed the virus to go on has caused the mutation. Eradication should have been the aim. They allowed the virus to spread in schools. They need to close the schools now.
Fortherosesjoni70 · 23/12/2020 20:14

Nearly 40000 cases today. Just shocking.

We weren't allowed to stick anything to the floor. Schools owned by another company that said it would fine the school £1000 for each item stuck to the floor.
