Stuck in Dover

No AIBU. Just stuck in my car in gridlocked Dover with a two year old. Only about two minutes from home. Been here half an hour now. Lots of traffic building up behind me. Plenty of people turning around. Anyone fancy keeping me company?

Stay strong op.

Put some Peppa Pig on the phone.

Totally sympathise OP.

I'm also staggered that they appear to have sent the tests by road. 🙄

mumwon · 23/12/2020 13:35

@MaskingForIt
maybe she had a hands free?

forgetthehousework · 23/12/2020 13:37

We were stuck on M25 for hours once, but felt much sorrier for the people in the car in front, who were very obviously on their way to a wedding and (judging from the top hats and tailcoats) probably in more than just a regular guest capacity!

JanewaysBun · 23/12/2020 13:38

I thought with the engine off it was ok? As there's absolutely no way you can accidentally move the Car!

Anothertiredmother · 23/12/2020 13:39

@nosswith

Hope you are a Remainer, if not no sympathy. Agree about the wipes. Nearly time for Fairytale of New York I think.
Brexit has absolutely nothing to do with this!
StanfordPines · 23/12/2020 13:42

There was a man on the radio just now from Dover. He was saying that there has been a family in a mini van who have been stuck outside his house for 50 hours now.
He said the women of the family had knocked and asked to use his toilet but he refused. Twat.
Even given COVID I would have gone out and asked if they wanted to use the loo.

JacobReesMogadishu · 23/12/2020 13:42

Maybe the OP has the engine off and hand brake in, in neutral when using the phone. Whichever I believe is allowed? I’m sure no police officer would bother issuing a fine even if it isn’t. It’s hardly dangerous!

God yes. Rather that than them pissing on your garden anyway.
JohnMiddleNameRedactedSwanson · 23/12/2020 13:47

Tell you what, @MaskingForIt. Why don’t you call Kent Police and tip them off that they can make a fortune in fines today in the queuing traffic. I’m sure they have plenty of time on their hands.

he's probably a brexiter Smile

So, how come the whole town is grid-locked? Surely the lorries are diverted away from the main thoroughfares when there's this sort of issue at the port? Do they drive through the main streets then?

(Sorry for my ignorance; it's been a while since I travelled via Dover).

Justiceisblind · 23/12/2020 13:50

I wonder if he's still married to her? (or maybe it was two blokes marrying each other)

Justiceisblind · 23/12/2020 13:50

re the use of phone, it's ok, it's hands free, we can all stop talking about that now, can't we......

AuntieStella · 23/12/2020 13:52

It is indeed technically illegal.

But no jury in the land would convict, now would they?

Wee wish you a cockwombling Merry Christmas

Purplecatshopaholic · 23/12/2020 13:53

You home yet op?

Because normal traffic will still be trying to leave Dover for day to day reasons but find they can't so it all backs up into the town.
Sideorderofchips · 23/12/2020 13:58

Are you home now. Op? I was thinking of you

Paloooza · 23/12/2020 14:02

If the OP has managed to get home she will probably be having her 2pm telephone appointment. Hope all goes well OP 🤞

ballsdeep · 23/12/2020 14:04

@MaskingForIt

Are you Scrooge?

jessycake · 23/12/2020 14:05

This is awful , I feel for people waiting for carers and ambulances

IMNOTSHOUTING · 23/12/2020 14:06

I'm all for following the rules but if traffic hasn't moved in hours of course there's no harm in OP being on her bloody phone come on!

moggiek · 23/12/2020 14:10

stovetopespresso Why do you think that? Genuinely curious.

listsandbudgets · 23/12/2020 14:14

Poor OP.. Hope she's home now and hasn't descended struggling in to a pile of sodden nappies.

I think someone needs to write a Dover Christmas edition of the wheels on the bus

The wheels on the bus are stuck in a jam, stuck in a jam, stuck in a jam..

the toddlers on the bus go wee, wee , wee

The driver on the bus is in floods of tears
