I've woken up with no taste or smell. I can't taste anything at all. Yes, I know what this means. Is it bad that my first thought was about the sourdough, Camembert and chilli jam Sad

Op you poor thing!!

Re tickling, I had this is my nose it was very vibrant, I wouldn't assume a tickly throat isn't covid... It seems to be a buzzy virus...

MardyBicardi · 23/12/2020 09:00

My colleagues had this over the last few weeks /days. They all got tested and had negative results. They felt rough for a few days but nothing long lasting, it was just another random bug.
All is not lost.
Hopefully you manage to get a test and you will know for sure.

Coffeeandcookies · 23/12/2020 09:01

I'm worried about this happening, so just in case I'm going to eat all the Christmas cheese, chocolate, mince pies and various other goodies as quickly as I can.

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 23/12/2020 09:01

@JinglingHellsBells

well I hope you are going to a) get a test and b) self isolate along with your family and c) call off any gatherings until you have the results.
What a rotten response to someone who maybe genuinely concerned they have covid (and obviously gutted they might not be able to taste over Christmas) Do you feel better for writing a pointless, uncaring post?

Hope you're feeling ok op and fingers crossed you get to taste all those goodies!

RuleOfCat · 23/12/2020 09:01

It is bad timing, but if you get a quick test you might still get a negative result for Christmas . DD2 lost her sense of smell totally last month, we all thought this is it and isolated for four days - test was then negative. We have no idea how she lost her normally very acute sense of smell with no other symptoms.

santasmincepie · 23/12/2020 09:03

We decided not to isolate in the house (we are from the outside world obviously). I'm not spending christmas away from my DP and DS!

DP lost his taste and smell on 14th. So covid as been in this house for almost 10 days and DS has shown no symptoms at all.

giletrouge · 23/12/2020 09:05

I had a loss of taste earlier this year, no other symptoms, got tested, no covid. It happens OP! You might not have it. There are other causes, and there's random unexplained loss of taste, too. Don't despair!

Aposterhasnoname · 23/12/2020 09:07

The op clearly states she’s having a party with 20 guests and will be out shopping today for last minute bits.

Oh wait, no she doesn’t, wind yer neck in.

MistleTOEboughski · 23/12/2020 09:07

surely we all starting to completely overreact now?
I don't think the OP was overreacting anyway, her first thought was "oh no I won't be able to enjoy the cheese now." I call that pretty laidback. I mean if you can't smell camembert it's as good as a lateral flow test imo. Perhaps that's why the French were so quick to shut the borders. Didn't want anything to threaten their Camembert appreciation over Christmas.

Treaclepie19 · 23/12/2020 09:07

I had a loss of smell and taste and my test was negative. Its very weird for me too because I can normally smell for miles 😂
Hope yours comes back soon!

santasmincepie · 23/12/2020 09:07

OP I'm several days in now and although my test result did come back positive, I feel absolutely fine other than the lack of taste and smell. If your toddler isn't potty trained yet, just be extra vigilant with nappies. Poor DS ended up with nappy rash as neither DP or I could smell a dirty nappy Sad

listsandbudgets · 23/12/2020 09:08

sniff everything on the spice rack.. if no joy get a test.

Sorry OP, Hopefully this will be your only symptom

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/12/2020 09:09

My husband has sinusitis and hasn't had his sense of taste or smell for months now. He is NHS and now being tested twice a week so it's definitely not Covid. There are other reasons for losing it but I suppose you ought to be tested to be on the safe side.

LadyLazaruss · 23/12/2020 09:11

@FollowThatStarTonight

Almost exactly the same here although I have a stuffy nose, sneezing and thickly throat. So although v unlikely to be the big c-19, I'm still not feeling much like the £300 of goodies we splurged on last night... I'm not even enjoying my morning coffee much. That's when you know it's bad Shock
Same here. DH did an emergency shop for me and bought back Sudafed nose spray - it's working really well for me actually! Might be something worth trying for your stuffy nose.
MagicSummer · 23/12/2020 09:11

Also, as you get older, your sense of taste does diminish - albeit gradually!

Trying81 · 23/12/2020 09:12

I had the same, test was negative.

I think I have sinusitis, but hoping for taste to be back by Friday!

Sorry - not sure why it's v unlikely to be c-19? Loss of smell/taste is a key symptom, and many people have stuffy nose/sneezing/tickly throat with covid. You need to test and isolate, you know that right?
BashfulClam · 23/12/2020 09:14

Definitely book a test I got my results 18 hours later.

CatVsChristmasTree · 23/12/2020 09:14

This is my biggest fear this Christmas, not being able to taste all the food! Though I'd probably lose a stone...

Unescorted · 23/12/2020 09:15

If you have a teenaged DS try walking into his room. If you don't feel the urge to open all the windows and scrape the dirty washing off the floor then I think you may need to freeze the dinner.

BashfulClam · 23/12/2020 09:18

@LadyLazaruss if I use sudafed i lose my sense of smell for weeks.

movingonup20 · 23/12/2020 09:19

I would freeze stuff if you can though I could taste sweet long before I could taste anything else, plus creamy soft things were more pleasant- just avoid pizza, it feels like cardboard in your mouth if you have no taste!

FollowThatStarTonight · 23/12/2020 09:19

*When to get a test
Get a test as soon as possible if you have any symptoms of coronavirus.

The symptoms are:

a high temperature
a new, continuous cough
a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
The test needs to be done in the first 8 days of having symptoms.

You do not need to get a test if you have no symptoms or if you have different symptoms*

I do not have those symptoms. If I had those symptoms I would request a test.

Sn0tnose · 23/12/2020 09:20

What can you freeze?

All fingers and toes are crossed for you that this symptom is one of the really short lasting ones!

LadyLazaruss · 23/12/2020 09:20

Ah, okay. It's worked okay for my blocked nose though 🤷🏻‍♀️
