AIBU to leave present for bin men/women

I’ve left out a carrier bag with a tin of biscuits for the bin men/women with a note to say thanks.

If I’m honest I’ve never left anything out before but this year I feel like there are lots of professions that have carried on going throughout the pandemic with little recognition, so just wanted to show them we are grateful!

DH thinks I’m weird!

Yanbu i brought both my regular postmen gifts. I would have brought somthing for the bin men but its not always the same crew.

We got them a box of chocolates Smile

I think it's a lovely thing to do.

It used to be traditional to give the bin men a "Christmas Box" of a few quid, but people don't seem to do it any more.

When I cleared out my late mother's house of 30 years' worth of hoarding, I left them a note apologising for all the extra work and explaining, and enclosed £20. The following week, they put a "with sympathy" card through the door for me.

I think little acts of appreciation are nice for people who do unpleasant jobs week in, week out.

My DH always leaves them 12 cans of lager which is probably sexist or against healthy eating policies or whatever but they always seem happy and always take away all our rubbish 😄

coldwaterfeed · 22/12/2020 18:32

Not everyone can drink beer though. Seems limited.

HeeeeyDuggee · 22/12/2020 18:34

We have our bin men and recycling team a couple box’s of chocolates to say thank you.

Lemonpiano · 22/12/2020 18:34

Are you sure they'll realise it's not waste if you leave it in a carrier bag? That would signal it was waste not a gift round here. It would be a shame if they ignored it / chucked it in with the other rubbish!

I have so much respect for our crews. They jog down the street so fast collecting and returning all the bins at such speed it's incredible. I could not do their job!

I8toys · 22/12/2020 18:38

We've left them 20 bud!

Nothingoriginalhere · 22/12/2020 18:41

We leave a crate of beer to say thank you.

Clackyheels · 22/12/2020 19:30

We gave them a box of mince pies. Probably random, but thought they would enjoy them on their break. Not necessary but it's nice to be nice.

switswooo · 22/12/2020 19:38

Strange that so many give bin men and women a tip but balk at tipping takeaway delivery drivers.

Standandwait · 22/12/2020 19:45

We tip every Christmas, with an especially heartfelt card this year. In fact, we tipped at mid-year this year, as we came out of the first lockdown through which they served faithfully.
And yes, we also tip delivery people, the newspaper "boy", the cleaner, etc etc. Especially this year. But I do think whether you give cash or not, it's nice to give a gift too -- at least a card to say you know they're working hard.
