Any of your neighbours made a dash for it?

As a Londoner I enjoy the peace that Christmas brings to my local area (SW), the ability to park outside your house, etc!
I thought it would be different this year but clearly not, hardly any cars parked & at least 6 of my neighbours have gone (no privacy in terraces with extensions etc).
Just my area?

I live in the Cotswolds which is tier 2, I think most have come here! Thanks for that!! 🙄 The council are using town hosts for the tourists!! WTAF!!

@atotalshambles

I think the press conference was too late for lots of people. Many had left already and lots made a dash on Saturday . Have lots of friends who are very quiet on social media now and WhatsApp groups so assume they have legged it. Still lots more people than normal here though .
Wasn’t it originally supposed to be 23-27th though, so how come press conference too late?

I know of a few who fled to parents houses at 11th hour and not all single people- presumably some taking new strain with them- and wonder if the households they’re going to were ok with that.

ceeveebee · 22/12/2020 14:02

@FreakA I think point is more that people living in London are much more likely to have family/parents outside of London. When I lived in London there was always a mass exodus of people going “home” for Christmas, traffic was always hell going northbound on Christmas Eve!

Watermelon888 · 22/12/2020 14:03

Also on our local news last night it said anyone who has travelled from London should isolate for 10 days- let’s hope they do that at least (and their household).

RaspberryCoulis · 22/12/2020 14:03

Well I'm not in London, but here in central Scotland we've been severely restricted for months.

No idea what my neighbours are or are not doing as I'm not standing at the window watching. Couldn't care less.

supportivemyarse · 22/12/2020 14:04

our neighbour (couple in their early 60s, not elderly or needing support) adult DC are here, they bolted out of London on a packed train Saturday teatime to avoid lockdown. They've been out and about locally since then doing loads of the usual Christmas shopping and stuff, I know this because they're busy posting 'happy reunited' photos on SM.

This after nearly a year of neighbour being up in arms for the tiniest thing eg. when a 'strange' car drove past their house during lockdown (not supposed to be here, can anyone identify the vehicle).

They behave like everyone else should wear a plague bell but they're somehow superior and unable to catch or spread it.

Are people getting confused with where “home” is?

I can understand students going back home, but surely if you’re an adult living and working somewhere, especially married/kids etc then that is your home?

I’ll be honest - I’m judging every single rule breaking tier 4 wanker.

My friend and her husband have suddenly gone silent on social media which is unheard of. They have clearly stuck with their plans of going from Leeds to stay with his family in Tier 4 Kent this week. I’m meant to be seeing her when she’s back next week to exchange gifts and I don’t feel like it now. He’s a public figure and I feel like outing him (I won’t do this).

I’ve unfollowed celebs on Instagram who’s gone abroad or fled tier 4. Their feeds are full of bullshit excuses. Has Piers Morgan gone from tier 4 to his second home in tier 2 btw? If so he’s a hypocrite.

Bravo to everyone following the rules in incredibly difficult times. Flowers

problembottom · 22/12/2020 14:08

*who have not who’s

ceeveebee · 22/12/2020 14:09

I don’t mean that they actually think they are allowed to return there because it’s their parental home - but yes, IME many young singles, couples and even with young kids would still call their parental home “home” and would go back there for Christmas. I worked in professional practices in London for several years in my twenties/thirties and anyone who wasn’t born and bred in London would talk about going “home” for Christmas

PimlicoJo · 22/12/2020 14:10

I'm in London. All my neighbours are around as normal and all that I've spoken to have cancelled Xmas plans.

movingonup20 · 22/12/2020 14:12

Lots turned up here around midnight on Saturday/Sunday. To be honest some came Friday too. Around 1/3 of the houses on our development are 2nd homes especially the flats

Well said, I completely agree re: celebrities, many of whom seem to think they have an exemption from distancing etc.

Jakers to go from Leeds where figures are falling to Kent is not the way I would go. If I had been his wife I would have said on yer bike...

That sounds suspiciously like my NDN - see my post in this thread a little earlier!

If you'd said the DC arrived yesterday, not Saturday, I'd be convinced it was them.

The NDNs did EXACTLY the same thing in the earlier lockdown - wanting to know whose car it might have been driving past their house (we're out in the sticks and there are only 6 houses on our lane so it's quiet) and commenting on the number of people out for a walk, etc.

Bloody hypocrites!

CountessDracula · 22/12/2020 14:14

I commented to dh only yesterday that no one has gone away this year. Streets as parked up as usual. I don't know anyone who is going away for Christmas. Also SW london

justasking111 · 22/12/2020 14:14

We have not seen the influx here think that in Wales because everything is shut down you would have to be desperate to come here.

They’re obviously not the brightest if posting on SM!

Did your local news report that they should be isolating for 10 days? Presume it’s a countrywide thing not just our region (nw)?

Speedyspunker · 22/12/2020 14:16

North Norfolker here. The place started to fill up late Saturday with an endless stream of arrivals throughout Sunday. We're doomed.

Requinblanc · 22/12/2020 14:17

I think the country would be a better placer right now without the self-righteousness and virtue signalling...

yeOldeTrout · 22/12/2020 14:18

No idea. I don't go out much so don't notice what neighbours do.

EastBoundAndDown · 22/12/2020 14:19

But the people that have gone already to stay with family before Boris's announcement saying it was now just one day, they shouldn't have planned to go anywhere till the 23rd anyway!

nosswith · 22/12/2020 14:19

@problembottom please don't out him, report to the police, as I assume you know the address he left. Especially if he is an MP.

nosswith · 22/12/2020 14:20

@Speedyspunker try and persuade you local shops to do as they are doing in Cornwall. Or if you are certain they travelled after Saturday and know addresses, report a few to the local police.

Justa47 · 22/12/2020 14:23

@jillypill

Loads left loads break the rules
National lockdown coming for months
