dh was telling me about his latest exploits on world of warcraft when he said he was 'raped' by some monster or other.i was confused and shocked.he explained that everybody uses that word as a term for being attacked.

i am horrified by this,AIBU?

i'm not disagreeing that for a rape victim to hear someone use the term might bring up horrible memories, simply that there are many other phrases or sayings that can equally offend one person who has a specific incident in their past which could be tied to the term. my point is i would not villify those using it in a casual manner as they may not be aware of the past of some present.
and also because people were raising there objections to the use of the term, i thought i would admit to using the term so i could present the other side of the argument.

sorry meant "someone present"

i dont think it can be compared to words like 'bugger',the meaning of that word has actually been changed in the OED anyway.

i find it unacceptable to use the word in such a way as it is triviallising the act itself.i'm not being over-sensitive.as far as i'm aware the word rape means to have sex with somebody against their will, not to be killed my monsters in a fictional game.
